SOUND OFF: Has America Gotten Tired of Commemorating 9/11?
While we haven’t forgotten have we moved on?

Did you know today was the 11th anniversary of the attacks on America on September 11, 2001. It is a day we will likely not forget but will we continue to commemorate? Last year we recognized the momentous ten year anniversary by celebrating the opening of the 9/11 reflecting pools memorial at the World Trade Center. But this year the anniversary seems rather anticlimactic. No politicians speaking at “Ground Zero,” no fan fare and even the media, while covering the events, has decided to mix in a few top stories for the day.
While the country is forever changed by the attacks, we seem to have accepted our new normal. For those who live in New York City, the outlandish security around the city has become a fact of life we’ve accepted and for those who don’t, life has gone on. We haven’t forgotten but have we moved on? Sound off: Has America Gotten Tired of 9/11
FILED IN Need to Know, News

I don’t want to say that America has gotten tired of it but I do feel like the rest of the country has moved on. I wasn’t in NY when it happened so I’m sure my feelings about 9/11 are much different than those who actually witnessed it. Everyone will always remember but I feel like because of the changes in our security and everything that has followed, maybe it’s just another day. I mean think about it, did things really go downhill after 9/11? Alot has changed since then, some good and some are a little more annoying. Idk, maybe it’s still a touchy subject that people don’t want to discuss anymore. And like I said yesterday, right now the big issue is the election. Everything else is not top priority
I think we’ve probably moved on until we read round-number anniversaries (20, 25, 30 years)
.
We remember, but as time goes on there will be fewer and fewer people who remember that day firsthand. Already, those under 19 years of age would have no real (or complete) memories of that day.
.
The event will move to the history books, and the crazy theories that were floated afterwards will gain a little weight with time on their side, but the emotion of the day will be lost on those who didn’t live through it.
I liken it to the JFK assassination or even Watergate. Those theories never died out. We ALL know there was more to those attacks than what we saw. There was all kinds of fishy stuff that we remember can no longer present evidence of. The initial shock prevented us from actively questioning the validity. IMO
I don’t know if tired is the word but a lot of Americans are tired of the drunk with power TSA and Homeland Security. I will always remeber it as the largest, most sophisticated covert operation the Mossad has ever pulled off though.
Nice.
Working for the City of New York, having some family birthdays and anniversaries around Sept. 11th, and just the involment of all New Yorkers on that day, I can never totally forget. But, I do think it is time for us to move on from the citywide display. Commemorate the day in your own special way if you wish or with a group of like-minded people, but I think that having or wanting the entire City to be damned near shut down EVERY year on the date is kinda ridiculous. I agree with Malcolm, have a 20th, 25th, 50th….. city-wide commemoration along with donating to your favorite 9/11 based charity, and following and supporting legislature like the Zadroga bill, that I keep confusing with the Zapruder film,(I know, wrong conspiracy) should more than suffice.
I would tend to agree. Part of life is moving past death as hard as it is to do.
I think it depends on who you ask. A lot of conspiracy theorists think it’s fucked up how the U.S government killed it’s own people and a lot respectfully remember those that were lost day and died during the war in Afghanistan and continue to die. I and all of my fellow Marines certainly dont take that day for granted, for we were called to serve this country, fight and kill terrorists. Sad thing I read on the net was people saying that 9/11 happens every year (NO SHIT EINSTEINS) and that the season premiere of the douche bag biker show Sons of Anarchy only happens once (but this is also a yearly thing, goes to show the intelligence of these dumb fucks)and that this show is more important….big slap in the face to all that have died, what would their reaction be if a loved one of theirs died that day or in the war….
I think that 9/11 will always be commemorated in some way whether big or small. PEACE!!!
