A Life in Detroit is Worth a Stick of Gum

Posted by Malcolm

78 year old in the wrong place at the wrong time

(note: the link I’m posting does not include all of the details. These are based on watching the live-shot on the local news)

A few days ago, an 11-year-old Detroit girl was playing at the playground, chewing gum. Someone from the neighborhood asked her for a stick of gum and she refused.

Words were exchanged, and their older siblings and parents were drawn into the argument.

That night, someone decided to ‘get back’ at the 17 year old brother of the girl.

After pumping 30+ rounds into the house, injuring 78-year-old Alice Poe, the shooters realized they were shooting at the WRONG HOUSE. (they could be heard yelling ‘that’s the wrong house, next door’)

Later in the evening the 17-year-old who was the original target was shot somewhere else. But of course, he’s not talking.

You can watch the story here.

Well at this point he doesn’t need to talk it seems everyone else knows who did it. But I agree that the culture of staying not snitching needs to go. But it is easy saying it when we are not involved. Meaning that if i did snitch who is going to protect my family and me when the person or gang of people come to my door knocking? But i also think the police need to up there game and not just enforcers of the law but to actually participate in the community they are patrolling. I think with programs like that the community with start to warm up to the police officer and you might get more information out of the people who will start to trust then.

The best way to kill fear and ignorance is “Hi, how are you doing today”

    LOL

There are at least three “lost” generations and I don’t know if is even possible to save the next ones without some real drastic action and I’m not talking about actions from some government agency but rather action by “the people” themselves. Folks need to come to grips with that.

Gee, you sound like Minister Farrakhan! in fact, he said this (and much more) during his push for the Million Man March……
