A Life is Worth 50 Cents in Detroit

Posted by Malcolm

Malcolm continues to lament the death of a once great city

At 1 am this morning, Michael Haynes walked into a BP gas station on the city’s west side to buy a pack of condoms.

The condoms were priced $1.50. After making the purchase, his friend told him that he could have bought them for $1.00 down the street. Haynes asked the clerk to refund his purchase, and the cashier refused.

Haynes got mad, and started busting up the joint, knocking over displays and items off the counter.

The clerk drew a gun and shot him in the shoulder. He lasted for a little while, dying in the parking lot of Sinai Grace Hospital.

Michael Haynes, Detroiter. The value of one human life… 50 cents.

One of these days, if I get depressed enough, I’m going to put on a garment of sack cloth, rub ashes over my body, and sing a lament for the city of Detroit.

You can find the story here.

I guess the clerk felt threatened enough to use force. How bad was Michaels’ life that 50 cents was worth getting that angry over?

Good question. Was his life that bad that he would be so bent out of shape over not getting a refund for a $1.50 item? All this just to save 50 cents off a purchase? Really? And the clerk, was it really worth all that trouble to get into a pissing contest with someone over a $1.50 item? Ridiculous…….
The point here (and I think you got it, Jimmyt) is that the 50 cents were not the issue. People are just crazy!. It’s like “road rage.” people get killed and get into accidents because someone else (in their perception) did something so disrespectful to ward them that they just can’t deal with it…so they have to show them some respect. It’s not that they took their parking space or cut them off on the road…how dare you disrespect me?! I will shoot your dumb ass! ……
Everyone’s a tough guy now (because of guns, really. When people fought bare-knuckled, there were much fewer tough guys and disputes were settled and people lived and moved on)… I had countless fights growing up and made many friends with the guys I fought, after the fights……Dec. 12, 2012 can’t get here quickly enough! lol…….

Yep, not long ago a kid shot and killed another kid for calling him “cuz” here in St. Louis. Granted rival gang members but still, “cuz”? That is just awful. One dead and one in the corrections system. And it happens all the time.

Here’s a very important question however. I men generally only buy one condom when they plan to use it. Often in the middle of the act, so i hope there wasn’t some poor girl waiting for buns back at the telly down the street. Life has become such an invaluable commodity. Its stock has plummeted. Buy low.

Yeah, like I said, people are crazy! …
although, I’m sure that lady was not an angel beign attacked by an enraged demon, as she is making it out to be! she was probably nasty/smartmouthed to the lady and the clerk snapped and choked her out….not condoning, but ish happenes…and now she (and the MTA) gotta pay the consequences….memo: don’t put your hands on people who have not put their hands on you!

    Shit cray like that
