Three White Teenages Arrested in Attack of Black Classmates with a Noose
Chicago Teens make sure we’re well aware Racism is not dead
We often discuss the topic of racism here at the Nation. I often propose food for thought to the Racial Determination Committe with regard to racial bias in incidents in current events that while on the surface we might be quick to classify as racist while a deeper dig may reveal another intent. And while I think the “Racism” card is pulled way too often, to assume it no longer exist in this world would be irresponsible.
Perhaps no where is that exhibited more than in between the DNA coded stands of teenage hormones. A recent story in the Chicago Tribune told the terrifying tale of 16 year old Joshua Merritt‘s up close and personal bout with Racism. During an after school visit to the house of a new white “friend” from school, Merritt was confronted by they boy and two of his friends who accused him of dating his white cousin. What started out as a “Nigger” laced tirade would later turn into a knife being held to his throat and a noose positioned around his neck. Merritt was somehow able to escape but the incident illustrates the still harsh realities of a world in black and white.
Merritt admits he wasn’t dating the boy’s cousin and that they were just friends. But in 2012 should it matter? Should we not only be bothered by interracial couples but be subjected to fear of violent retaliation? This sounds like a scene out of the civil rights movement.

The 16-year old whose house Merritt was held in was charged with charged as a juvenile “with committing a hate crime, unlawful restraint, aggravated battery and aggravated assault for allegedly pulling a knife.” A 17-year old was also charged as a juvenile. Matthew Hermann, 18, was charged as an adult.

Neither shit…uation was right and both need 2 be charged as adults and given at least 10 yrs in the Pen. U do have 2 admit Malcolm more Hate crimes are commited by Angry this is my KKKuntry so u N-words (boy I hate that word) get out white boys. We as a race just want 2 be treated with respect as any1 else but everytime u turn around u see some KKKasper ass dude hating on blackmen. Yes we do snatch up a whiteboy once in awhile but not often. We mostly hurt one another. Which is sad,2 me personally I think as a race we as blacks are truly scared of white people. A whiteboy is more safer in the projects than a black person is,yet I know there are certain areas I know I would have 2 be deep with my people b4 I went 2 have sex with some white woman .I hate that we still live in an AmeriKKKa where Martin Luther King’s dream has become a nightmare but it has and will never be the way he wanted it 2 be. Hateful, ignorant, stupid people often use race, religion, sexual orientation, perceived wealth, among other “factors”, as an excuse to lash out at others and thus show that they are indeed hateful, ignorant and stupid…..we know what happened with the Black kid, but we don’t know why the 3 black kids beat up the white dude. A lot of stuff happens in the streets that get people beat up, and since we don’t know in this instance, let’s not so quickly lump them together in the “race-hate crime category.” Maybe the dude said something derogatory/hateful toward the teens and them, being 17 and 15 years old and not having proper self-control, beat his ass. At that age, had it happened like that, I would have done the same thing….you may not know this, Malcolm, but White people have a way of saying slick, underhanded, derogatory, and racist comments toward Black people and then act surprised when Black people react violently. I don’t excuse or condone violence, except in self-defense. However, I understand it because I have been there. I’ve just matured to the point where the fight is now mental.

Now… as far as ‘white people have a habit of…’. If a white guy would start a sentence by saying ‘black people have a habit of…’ you would be rightfully climbing all over them.
No, Black people have PLENTY of bad habits and I have no problem pointing them out….
I’m not defending hormones here, just going by the info presented: the Black kid’s White friend and two other white kids put a knife to his throat and a noose around his neck (a noose being the #1 most hateful, racist action you can do to a Black person in the US). And, people get pulled out of cars and beat up for a number of reasons. After reading the other link you provided, it does appear to be racially motivated and there is no room/excuse for that. But originally, it could have been for anything……
Side note: people who know me know that I crack racial/off-color/inappropriate jokes on all races equally (to my friends); it’s my way of saying that people are usually too sensitive on insignificant race issues and that all races have “stuff” that can be made fun of….maybe it does seem in my commentaries that I am quite racially sensitive as well. I’m really not, but some stuff burns me up and I have seen and been subjected to so much REAL RACISM that some things spark a fire in me….the key thing here is “insignificant”. People get caught up on stuff that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The real racism is going on behind closed doors in some of the fine “institutions” in this country….that guy being beat up at a stop light for being white and the kid having a knife to his throat because he is black, that is real life and death and worth talking about!
This is sad…I know some people refuse to believe racism is still around but HELL YEAH it is…I hate this young brotha had to go thru this…

Both these stories are sad and real examples that racism is not dead, it’s been sweeped under the rug, the facade of bigotry is finally breaking. You see White on White racism, Black on Black racism, Asian on Asian racism, Latino on Latino racism and etc., but people dont worry about it, because its not two seperate races going at it, that’s the sad reality of the world we have always and will continue to live in. The dumb, deaf and blind, being lead and influenced by the dumb, deaf and blind. Young buck does look like a young Spike Lee. All of you prove very valid points. Question for the HBN, would you rather be surrounded by a bunch of hypocrite bigots or straight up racists that you at least know their feelings for you are sincere?, they both suck, but I choose the latter.

It has bothered me for so long. If nobody could see their would be no more raciest hate crimes. Without sight people cannot tell your race. What I mean is that to judge somebody they would have to get to know that person, talk to that person and find out who they are. If people did that instead of stereotyping the world would be a better place for everybody. But sadly we are human and mistakes are made the only thing we can do is shun the people who are ignorant and racist. Look for justice to build a better tomorrow. Teach the young to look at the inner rather than the out and that is where racism will end.
