  1. Malcolm says:

It sounded like a socialist utopia to me.
    .
The answer to every problem, according to both sides, is spending more money.
    .
The national debt is no going away, and we WILL be expected to pay it back. The quicker we learn that and deal with the problem, the better our chances of avoiding national default and worldwide catastrophe.

  2. Mr. Bad Guy says:

Sounded like a bunch of politics to me. I will believe when and if I see it.
    .
I liked what he said about taking away the federal subsidies given to colleges, that when they receive they in-turn around and raise tuitions. If they raise tuition the subsidies should be taken away. The sudsidies are in place so that tuition won’t be raised, not to guarantee the college a profit, or to be swindled.(That didnt sound like spending money to me, that sounded like saving money.)
    .
I am a card carrying leach of a union worker, and for as long as I have been I wondered why the hell does The City of New York pay anyone for its electricity. Why doesn’t the City of New York has it’s own power authority, run by city workers, to provide power to it’s municipal buildings. If you want to bitch about some Schmoe who worked 30 years for the city and recieves a 50k a year pension, I can show you the electric bill for ONE city site for ONE month that could pay that Schome’s pension for 2 years or so. So the goverment providing it’s own resources makes alot od sence to me, and it would create jobs and save money.
    .
Those were two that meant the most to me. Most of the rest was him patting himself on the back.

  3. 2NA$$TEE says:

The debt did not start with Obama but I am sure he will get blamed for it like everything else including the Kennedy Assassination.
We are going 2 be in even more debt that our kids, kids, kids will be kicking out major paper. This Y all this East Coast/West Coast Dem/Repub beefing has 2 stop nobody wins with either idea the Parties have. As usual President Obama came with his best 16′z but the haters aka RepubliKKKlans were bathing in Haterade and will continue 2 do so until he is out of office.Nothing will be accomplished because the other side will block any idea effort etc the Obama admin comes up with, which in turn makes it look like he is not doing any thing to solve these problems with the economy.Pleeeeeeeez President Obama grow a pair b4 it’s to late.

  4. Malcolm says:

I think the closest comparison I can make to the way Congress acts would be a compulsive gambler.
    .
They lose their paycheck at the table, so they gamble the house payment in an attempt to get it back. They lose their house payment, so they gamble their 401k to get it back.
    .
At every step their decisions are proven wrong, and yet they continue to act in the same way, mistakenly believing that they are just one or two good hands away from making it all better.
    .
Down the street from where President Obama gave his speech last night, there is a new born baby. It’s the first day of their life, and they now owe $48,830.26 to pay off the fact that their grandparents can’t control their spending addiction.
    .
And now, congress wants another $3000 per person because they’re too busy arguing with each other to actually get anything done.
    .
There is only one solution: we must stop the spending. We must control our spending enough to not only pay our bills, but to make payments on our national credit card.
    .
It’s not enough to simply say that someone ‘deserves’ government money. I want to know who’s going to pay for it. I think I ‘deserve’ a new high def TV, but that doesn’t mean I’m asking YOU to buy it for me.
    .
All I heard last night was that we were going to give a ‘tax credit’ to this person, an ‘investment’ to another person, and a ‘jobs program’ to the third.
    .
Borrow more money, because the money they borrowed last time didn’t fix the problem.
    .
This isn’t rocket science, we all know how it works in our own live. If we charge up our credit card, we are expected to pay it. And if we keep charging, only two solutions are possible: people stop lending us money, or the monthly payment gets so high we can’t afford to pay it, and we go broke.
    .
We’re past the point where we can afford to give money to every guy with a ‘plan’. Especially if their last big idea failed after being bought with our money.
    .
Why we tolerate such irresponsible actions from our elected officials is beyond me.

    • 2NA$$TEE says:

I have to co sign with u Mr.Malcolm u hit on some common sense type of solutions. As 4 thinking a person deserves money from the Gov that’s not going 2 happen. Acountability in our Government is what needs to be upheld.Just like common citizens the Government itself should stop not only asking 4 handouts but actually taking money the tax payers give.C a Dem and a Repub can agree on issues now if the 1z on KKKapital Hill can only try 2 be as inclusive.

    • Mr. Bad Guy says:

I do agree with the concept of the government “CONTROLLING spending enough to not only pay our bills, but to make payments on our national credit card.” But, there is something that seems very impractical about the cut dry concept of “STOP SPENDING”, the problem is more the country’s debt goes much deeper than just “stop spending”. The term “stop spending” just seems more like rhetoric than a practical approach.
      .
I am currently about 3 months away from ending about 11 years of credit card debt. It was NOT done by just “stop spending”, because I still buy goods and services as I did before, it was done more so by controlling and scrutizing my spending and developing proper spending habits, on top of enabling myself to advance financially. But then again I was never an physically extravagant person to begin with. I do have dreams of grandeur, but I would rather have $100 in my pocket than $100 on my feet.
      .
Next time Congress, the Senate, the House or whomever says the cut-dry statement of “stop spending”, I think it should be remembered the next time they get a raise.

      • Malcolm says:

Congratulations on getting yourself out of credit card debt. It’s been about 10 years, but I can still remember the day that I got myself out from under my own credit card debt.
        .
I agree that it’s about ‘controlling’ spending; but since the idiots in Congress don’t understand that, I’ll stick with keeping the message simple and telling them to STOP spending.
        .
I don’t think most people realize how close the USA is to the end of our financial rope, and I KNOW that most don’t appreciate exactly how deep the catastrophe would be if/when then US defaults.
        .
The last time something like that happened was when Rome fell, and we had 400 years of dark ages.
        .
As far as the shoes go, I agree. Being able to generate debt is not the same thing as being rich.

  5. jimmyt says:

About 5 mins into it I had the feeling that I had seen this movie a few times before and I already knew the ending.
