Beyonce’s New Bleached Skin Cause For Dr. King To Edit His ‘Dream’

Posted by Juan

As one of the premier African American Pop Icons she has a responsibility to her young fans and that extends to her skin

Coming on the heals of the National holiday commemorating the life and legacy of the man dedicated to equal rights for those darker shades I thought it important to discuss the new images of pop icon, Beyonce’s recent pictures.  She new mom originally caused controversy in 2008 when her skin appeared several shades lighter than usual in an ad for L’Oreal and leaked photos of her new album cover appear to have done the same.

The photos of the cover which first appeared in the London’s Daily Mail appear to show an almost unrecognizable Beyonce for the redux version of her album 4.  The sexy pose is familiar, same for the blonde wig and yes to the revealing black lingerie but what’s up with the Michael Jackson bleaching?

I don’t get much into rumors but many of the much more cooler gossip sites reported years ago that her father, Matthew Knowles encouraged her to use skin treatments so that she would have the lightest complexion in Destiny’s Child. Now obviously I can’t confirm that to be truth but how said and self-deprecating is that?

Then in 2008 we talked about the infamous L’Oreal ad in which cosmetics company was accused of “whitewashing” her face Last February, Beyonce was spotted wearing a black minidress, which revealed her unusually pale skin.

Even as a lightskinned African American/ Hispanic I have long understood the unhealthy effect skin varience has had on our society.  In Latin America alone it is common understanding that lighter skin is more valuable than paper currency.  For Beyonce’s youngest fans this is a dangerous message.  There are millions of Teenage and Pre-Teenage girls that take to the internet and YouTube every day to emulate her “Single Ladies” dance.  Will they likewise share the shame for their darker complexion?

Too many children whether they be black, Hispanic or Asian grow up understanding  right or wrong that dark skin is somehow inferior.  While our parents often fight hard to counter-balance this perception who can fight against the influence of a star like Beyonce or Michael Jackson before her.

Martin had a dream where Negro Children and White Children alike would play in harmony..  I wonder, however in that dream how many of those kids appeared lightskinned and to what degree.

I wouldn’t care if she was green with purple polka-dots. I’d have to take one for the team and smash.

Eh, I would say that the picture mentioned is more an over-use of lights during the photshoot, than her, or the advertisers, lightening her skin complexion. Look at her thigh in the picture, man-o-man look at her thigh (sigh), it is obviously her natural skin color.

But, I hear what you are saying regarding skin color. I live in a very multi-cultural neighborhood. If you go to the Indian section of the neighborhood, in the advertisments you see VERY fair skinned light-eyed Indians, NOT the norm. The same goes for the Asians, and especially the hispanic ads. I read something last year, that stated over 60% of the population of Colombia is actually darkskinned, 60 fucking percent, very unlike blonde haired, fair skinned Shakira. And the same goes for my favorite South American country Brazil. Shit, look at that famous Jamaica tourism ad from the 70′s, http://www.biginjamaica.com/random-cool-ish/jamaica-tourist-board-poster-girl/. She’s not even Jamaican she’s Trinidadian. Why not use a person more like the beautiful women that find in Jamaica? Because white, or as close to it as possible, is right, that’s why. So, who cares about being true, or honest, we just want to be right.

I feel you Juan, if Beyonce is lightening her skin, I don’t agree with that. I think that everyone should be happy with whatever complexion they were born. PEACE!!!

  4. E.L.Diaz says:

I think people have the right to do whatever the hell they want to do with their own bodies. With that comes responsibility when you have dependents: children. People, teach your children at home and teach them RIGHT, so that they don’t look for guidance from people on TV or people who stand to GAIN from them! I am responsible to teach mine, that’s all.

COSIGN 100%!!!!!!!!!!! T.V and celebreties should never be responisble for teaching your children anything. Like how LATINO parents should teach their kids that being called HISPANIC is more demeaning than anything else.
