Happy Birthday Dr King

Posted by Malcolm

Saluting the Man and Legend

Happy Birthday to Dr King, who would have been 83 today. In national celebration of his birthday, you won’t be getting any mail tomorrow.

I know that on Kings birthday, (and for the entire month of February) we’re supposed to reflect on King the legend; but King is more than just the man on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel; more than the giant telling us his dream. Long before he was a statue in Washington DC, he was Marty King Jr, the man.

Human like the rest of us. Imperfect like the rest of us. Full of the same fears and phobias that we all struggle with.

And I think it’s important to remember King the man. When we look at the examples given to us by our legends, it’s easy to convince ourselves that we are incapable of ever reaching the same levels. We say ‘of course King could achieve that… he’s Dr King’; but by reflecting on the MAN, we realize that as men and women, we can achieve our own destinies.

So here’s some pictures of Dr King shooting pool, getting a kiss from his wife, and playing with his children.

Happy King day. But we shouldn’t just be celebrating the man but what he actually stood for. And the Month of February isn’t just the celebration on Dr. King but all of the hero’s,Pioneers and freedom fighters of the Black Community.

I do like the Human touch of your post.

With the short attention span of the average teenager, we’re lucky that they can remember King, let alone any of the others.

Malcolm. Thanks for doing this. I think he’s become so much larger than life that we often forget to think of him as anything less than immortal especially amongst us as a generation that never walked the earth with him. My sister recently moved to Atlanta where she attends Ebeneezer Baptist the church first erected by MLK Sr. She speaks of his presence in the place. I think you’re right, we need to check ourselves some times while remember all he stood for and did and remember his dream was intended to become a reality and we have the power to put his plan into action. We owe it to…the man.

I find it amazing that so far counting my comment so far there are only 4 . 4 comments there were more when it was found out Beyonce and Jay Z gave birth 2 their child. This man is the reason we have a Darkside of the Force on the “ultimate plantation” aka “The White House” . Dr.King is the reason 4 alot of what has happened in a positive way 4 African Americans. Yet if Dr.King were still here he would be hella pissed at us as a whole, calling each other Nukkuz , killing each other over shoes named after a retired basketball player ,not really caring about the existance of our race.No 1 is taking action on political issues concerning US . Now don’t get me wrong it’s not all bad 4 blacks, we have won a few more Oscars since he died, had a new form of music emerge called Hip Hop.Michaelmania in 1983-1986 accomplished somethings in sports, even a African American President never ever ever thought I would c that . Yet we still as the Hip Hop generation overall don’t really care 2 hear about those civil rights days and the man responsible among with others notable mention Malcolm X. We can’t tell you where the March on Washington was or recite some of the the I Have A Dream Speech but know all the lyrics 2 The Rick Ross mixtape or know who is on the roster at Cash Monkey/Young Monkey oops I meant money. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. is more than just a celebration of 1 man’s legacy but an entire race of people and coming 2gether as 1 Human Race. I was always more of a Malcolm X man myself but both served the same purpose and are BOTH sorely needed now in this day and age. Happy Birthday 2 an amazing man and may his legacy live on 4 all of us 2 follow.

I think Malcolm X would have got a laugh out of the fact that when Obama walks into a room, all the (white) people have to stand at attention.

Malcolm X and Dr.Martin Luther King would have laughed out of their seats . Both great speakers and wonderful human beings. By Any Means Necessary Keep The Dream Alive.
