SOUND OFF: Thoughts on US Marines Pissing on Dead Afghan fighters?
What impact does it have on peace and overall U.S. World image?

What’s up Nation. The hot News topic for today was the photo that surfaced of US Marine personal relieving themselves on the corpse of dead Afghan soldiers. It goes without saying that these acts are very disgusting. I can only imagine how wonderful and unfortunate of a recruitment tool the photo must be for the Taliban. Its sad, but if you think about it, many of these young men enlisted to fight terrorism yet these acts do nothing more than encourage it.
These are individuals conducting individual acts and being made an example of, however appropriate that example is of an inappropriate act. But its important to remember these acts are not indicative of the intentions of the vast majority of members of our US Military. I will however say that the anonymous source who posted it is a bit of a sucka. If you’re going to out your brothers you might want to go on record otherwise its a sucka move. Just my take.
As a man however, who isn’t and never has been in the military I can’t speak from a place of experience. I can but won’t openly criticize these individuals as I’m sure there is plenty of that already being handed down by the general public. Over the years Highbrid Nation for some reason or another has become a water cooler of sorts for veterans and those actively serving so I thought this would be a good opportunity to let those with more Equity in the conversation speak on the topic.

Was it politically incorrect? Sure. Will some people use the photo as an excuse for an anti-American rant? Probably.

But you know what… most of us don’t earn our living having other people trying to kill us.

I don’t know the back story of the photo. I don’t know that the dead guys had been up to, or who they killed, or whatever.

Besides… better that they piss on his dead body than they piss on ours.

When we send out boys out to be professional killers we can’t be surprised when they act like professional killers.

True story.. in WW2, when General Patton crossed the river into Germany, he stopped in the middle of the bridge, took a piss in the Rhine, and said ‘I’ve been waiting 5 years to do that’.

I guess I’m in the mood on this to quote a few good men. If we take offense at how these men defend our freedom, we’re welcome to pick up a rifle and stand a post ourselves.
Like Juan said, this stuff just helps terrorist groups recruit. I also agree that it was a sucka move on the part of the person who gave up the video. As disgusting and disrespectful as it is to piss on somebody’s corpse, the act of giving the video to the media is way more harmful in the grand scheme of things.
It’s irrelevant what transpired before those guys were killed. They are dead. I’m not getting on some soapbox about respecting the dead (although they should). My point is, they are dead. You already took everything away from them. Now you gonna piss on their lifeless remains? THAT IS A SUCKA MOVE!

E.L….America is hateful. That perception will never change. Everyone hates America and we are always the bully. Sad but true…at times we are the Hero but give it a little more time and then America reminds the world why everyone hates us.

Speaking as a veteran of the military, I am not condoning what they are doing, but I can understand what would make them want to do it. No one really knows how it is over there but military, everyone else just goes off what they see off t.v and what they believe is “morally” right. I ask this, the people who say to respect the dead bodies, what if these men had killed your family(because thats what they do)how respectfull would you all be then. High horses are the downfall of society.

I think your point is well taken N.Lee we’re over there because there’s a problem and we hired them to essentially handle it for all us who don’t have the balls to. Where I waiver is in if we have the right to say HOW that problem is solved. My biggest gripe and where I agree with E.L. is in that all this does is make it so that we have future problems because of the perception of how they represent us as Americans.
What if these people had killed my family? My family is not over there. U.S. soldiers are over there, occupying their land, on the premise that those people attacked this country on 9/11…Get it straight: the people who attacked this country that day DIED that day. The people who collaborated with them? They really don’t know who they are. Bin Laden is dead–he was a sworn enemy of the U.S. Saddam Hussein is dead, collateral damage of GREED and CAPITALISM (I’m being redundant: those two are the same thing!)….soooo, how many more HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS have to die for the U.S. to feel that 9/11 was “avenged.”? The people in Iraq and Afghanistan had NOTHING to do with 9/11, yet the U.S. has RAVAGED their countries on EVERY level. And even after leaving there, their footprint will remain for generations…..and I don’t need to know how it is over there or in the military to know what is right and act accordingly….and another thing, let’s stop this BS about the military “protecting our freedom” over there. They are there to protect the interests of the rich and powerful and to find new ways for them to make more money…that is the “American Dream” they are protecting.
I know this fodder of another debate but, I disagree, greed and capitalism isnt the same. Capitalism is being able to profit (or capitalize) from goods, services, or experiences rendered. In capitalism there is a great deal of risk involved. Greed is when actions, or philosphies (usually immoral or inethical) are set in place to ensure profit. Greedy people or enitities tend to want the risk factor created by capitalism to be not so great or to be swayed to their advantage.
You are correct…in premise. The reality is that capitalism inevitably leads to people lying, cheating and stealing in order to make more money or just to make money to stay in business. The key here is people. Flawed people running companies, whose boards/stockholders want a bigger margin profit.
No. The lying, stealing, and cheating happens in EVERY socio-econmonic arena, not just capitalism. I think that capitalism alLows more of an even setting for the little guy to come up. He just has toh ave the way-with-all to out-swindle the big guys or swindle just like the big guys, lol.

I’m going to be honest and blunt here. When I first saw this on the news this morning, I thought to myself “what kind of idiots would allow themselves to be recorded”? I really don’t care that they pissed on them or not. I’m not saying it was right but honestly, who gives a shit? We don’t know what those men did before they died, who’s to say they didn’t have it coming? The media and the person who released this footage is making this a bigger issue than it has to be. Would anyone be upset if this was Osama or Saddam? I can understand why people/society might think this is disrespectful but at the same time those Marines might have had a good reason to do that. Probably not but what if those Afghan soldiers had pissed on one of our American soldiers? Would there still be an issue? All I’m saying is that what they did could be wrong and it could be right. Doesn’t really matter, it’s childish and a little insensitive but these are trained killers who are trained to think little of terrorists! Common fucking sense! I bet these Marines don’t give two shits that they pissed on the corpses…they only care about this being brought out to the public. And I bet they want to get their hands on the snitch….The only regret they have is that it was recorded.

That all depends on who you ask. Everyone sees this in their own way. Some might think that and others might think its just plain wrong, sick, disrespectful, etc. But I guarantee if you ask some teenagers in your everyday hood, most would laugh and think its funny. Some might even say that they’d piss on them too. I totally get what your saying Juan, I’m just saying that I feel like everyone views this differently.

In every modern day military campaign the first action done is to dehumanize the enemy. Usually this is initially done by issueing a derogatory moniker for your enemy. Whether it’s the “Skinny’s” of Somalia, “Charlie” of Vietnam, the “Krauts” of Germany, or the “Infidels” of America, the warriors of whatever country are trained to look at their enemy as less than themselves. I guesss it’s easier to kill, and in this case desecrate the corpse of, something that is perceively sub-human. What happened here, is what happens when a certain rhetoric goes way too far.
As a former Marine Infantry Man, I’m embarrassed by the actions of these stupid fucks!. This goes to show you the lack of manners, respect and common sense that a lot of these idiots have. I see people for who they are, regardless of your race, if you’re a piece of shit, you’re a piece of shit. My apologies on behalf of the Marine Corps, not all Marines are this fucking ignorant when it comes to human life, dont be a hypocrite, denounce what your “enemies” do, turn around and do the same.
I am not a Marine or part of the Navy. But again let someone piss on an American corpse and see if we don’t drop a bomb on the whole country. Yes they are trained killers. But did they lose their whole humanity in the process? This will cause more backlash (even more for occupying anothers country) Its funny to me how we call everyone Terrorist in there country. It leads me to ask what did Britain call us when we were ambushing them to gain our Independence ? Or the Native Americans when we took there land?
Pissing on a corps dooms your childrens children. And should be frowned upon greatly.
