More Bad News For Cain

Posted by Malcolm

And why this is an example of how to properly kill two birds with one stone.

Another woman has come forward to accuse Herman Cain. This time it is a woman from Georgia who claims that she had a 13-year affair with the republican candidate.

The claim was pre-announced by Cain himself, who warned that a woman would be coming out to make the claim against him. During the same interview, Cain drew a line in the sand and categorically denied that there was any truth to the rumor.

In another politically awkward moment, Cain’s live CNN interview appears to contradict his own attorney’s statement .

Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.

Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.

Just a few random thoughts as this sinks in…

1. His attorney’s statement does not deny the claims. Instead, it tries to force feed the press (and us) a kind of don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy on the subject.

I think he’s living in a dream world. If he doesn’t already know, the Attorney (and Cain) will soon realize that the American people have a habit of making up their own mind on what they are and are not interested in.

2. I honestly don’t know what went through Cain’s head when he decided to ever run for President. He had to have known that all of these women were going to come out. And he had to know that you can’t politically survive this sort of thing.

But on the plus side, if he honestly believed he could keep it all under wraps or survive such perceptions, he wasn’t bright enough for the job, so the scandals are a favor coming out before the nomination.

3. Being raised on “The Godfather Philosophy of Politics” ( I would say the Francis Urquhart school of politics, but sadly no one would know what I meant), I have to admit that I have been floating a theory in my mind that all of these women are being unknowingly manipulated for the benefit of Mitt Romney.

Hitting Cain on this subject carries over and harms Newt Gingrich, who is no stranger to sexual infidelity himself.

A well placed series of attacks on Cain kills two birds with one stone: it knocks out Cain, but in doing so, it forces the same voters to acknowledge that Gingrich is morally disqualified for the same reason.

I don’t think it’s the democrats doing this because they wouldn’t do anything to help Romney. It might be coming from Perry’s campaign, though they seem too late in the game to stretch this one out.

The story was broken by a Fox station, so all of the campaigns probably have their contacts.

So, unless it was just a random series of events, I’d have to lay this at the foot of Romney; and frankly admit that it is a well placed shot.

4. I’d be the first to admit that I’ve done some seriously nasty things in my life, but I’m still old fashioned on certain subject. And the bottom line is that I don’t trust any man who f*cks around on his wife.

5. Don’t forget that we’ve got Iowa in 36 days. Expect some more surprises

I saw the woman interviewed on Fox news last night and she appeared credible. She laid it out plainly, not outlandish or anything…the final nail in the coffin: she had his personal cell number and the reported texted it…and Herm called back!!! that’s an amateur move rite theurrr! you never call back, Herm! and you change the voice mail message! Have the computerized “leave your message at the tone”. Nobody knows it’s your number, fool! and I’m tired of him always talking about he was helping her out financially and that was that! Does he think people are that dumb, to believe that?! How many millionaire CEOs are “just helping people out” financially? I need to get Herm’s cellie so I can ask him for some help! I’m officially sick of Herm! … just because of his lame-ass explanations! You’re a G! in fact the G CEO, LMAO … Own it!
