Asher Roth Shows Off Incredible Skills as ESPN Guest Blogger

While I often spend a lot of time bashing rappers I applaud their efforts to expand beyond music, hell Hip Hop. Now you know I’ll never be confused for a Lil Wayne fan but I was ecstatic a few years back when he landed a gig as a featured regular on some of their shows like 1st and Ten, Around the Horn and a guest spot as a blogger for the network’s website.
Rappers are entertainers and they understand what makes the crowd move. They’re also sports fans, fathers, car enthusiast, tech geeks as well so limiting your MC skills to the mic is limiting. The latest such artist to venture beyond the boundaries, albeit somewhat in Wayne’s footsteps is Asher Roth whose apparently been “hired” by ESPN to blog from a unique perspective on the NFL. In a very creative take, Asher shares his undying love for football, the 49ers and how he and Alex Smith will forever be linked. Great read! Here’s an excerpt.

Such an unfortunate obsession. Great for high stress levels and weekly letdowns but hardly any help keeping my girlfriend happy. Why do I care so much about something I have no control over?
Sure, the San Francisco 49ers have a higher win percentage when I wear my Ronnie Lott jersey. And of course it matters who’s with me and where I’m sitting in the living room. But few things mean more to us beer-drinking, number-donning brutes than a W on game day.
Oh sports, what a brutal relationship we have.
