SOUND OFF: Thoughts On Young Republicans’ Race Based Bake Sale Pricing?
Do they Have a Point or are these just a Racist bunch of UC Berkeley Student Republicans? Let the RDC Convene
The always wildly controversial University of California, Berkeley Campus Republicans club is once again at the center of controversy. Controversy they say they never intended to draw but are eagar to prove a point.
The group’s Facebook page recently listed the price of baked goods at their upcoming sale according to race: $2 for whites, $1.50 for Asians, $1 for Hispanics, $0.75 for blacks and $0.25 for Native Americans and $.25 for all women of course.
What point exactly where they trying to make?
Well according to group President, Shawn Lewis the idea was intended to “increase diversity” a tounge in cheek reference to how schools and other institutions have attempted to to do so with mandated set asides for women and minority groups. The point was recently highlighted by a legislative bill to let California public universities consider race and gender as a factor when accepting students in order to increase diversity.
Despite protests of which the group says they never planned attract, they plan to proceed with to go ahead with the sale on Tuesday despite protests and threats.
“We didn’t expect the volume, the amount of response that we got,” Lewis told CNN.
I gotta hand it to the Young Republican groups. They’ve always sparked some very interesting debates and sparked nationwide discussions of a healthy nature about the double standards that exist in society. I for one am an advocate of affirmative action programming WHEN DONE RIGHT. That’s the problem however, it almost never assists those that need it most and only pisses off those adversely affected by such mandates.
M/WBE (Minority and Women Business Enterprise) programs exist in almost every municipality however, as a minority business enterprise owner the process seems to often be more time consuming and labor intensive than what its worth. The policies are often obscure and designed only for larger firms where as on the flip side, smaller white owned firms that are deserving of such contracts rarely receive them because of M/WBE mandates. Its a racket and the same could be said with almost all affirmative action programming. So SOUND OFF: does it take a race based price list for us to wake up and fix this system or are these a bunch of racist punk republican students trying to be smart asses?

I have been saying this all along Becky and Heather u r allowed 2 be privileged because u follow your Master and they only way u stay in that status is 2 follow your fearless leader aka Pasty Pete aka KKKasper .I am down like 4 flats on a 64 Impala when it cumz 2 affirmative action but it should NOT be the sole basis of getting a job or advancing even tho it is used in the opposite way when it comes 2 “KKKasper”. Do I understand the point these “young Republicans” were trying to make? Yes, I do. It is stab at certain types of Affirmative Action or Equal Opportunity, in this case a possible way the college would and may charge according to the color of ones skin or ethnic background.

People say they are making light of a serious situation, well sometimes you have to go to the far right or far left for peole to understand the gravity of a situation.

There in a line that says “Gross inequality breeds resentment.” And that line is true on all levels. When a person feels that they aren’t being treated as an equal, irregardless of any and all past doings, they find that particular instance of inequality as a reason to hate.
But the only reason we have Affirmative Action/Equal OpPOORtUNITY is bcuz of the constant blatant racism when it comes to hiring or otherwise.No other color is allowed 2 have a say in shit concerning AmeriKKKa it’s built and designed that way from the News Media 2 Economic and Educational structures. KKKasper rules this shit. Until a real Revolution comes and not in the form of being mad bcuz Facebook is rumored 2 be charging ppl either . That aint not fucking Revolution.
Let me be the first to say that I am NOT a fan of Affrimative Action. I would not want ANYTHING, as an employee or consumer, to do with a company that is forced by the government to develop a quota to serve the minority community. Fair hiring practices and diversity is something a company should actively strive for. Would you want to work for a place that didnt want to hire you because of your race or sex, but HAD to due to a government mandate.

Now Equal Opportunity Employment makes more sense. Every person who applies for a position in the time alloted, has an equal opportunity to gain employment based on the skills printed on their resume, the personality manifested at the interview, and the character told by their references.

This is my point of view. I may be naive, very confident in my ability, or possibly both. I do boast a damn near flawless track record when it comes to employment after being interview. I feel that if someone wanted to discriminate on me they could before even seeing me. I am from East Flatbush, Brooklyn, (ABSOLUTLY NOT a white neighborhood) I have a Arabic first name, Swahili middle name, and a last name that is often mistaken for Hispanic. That kinda embodies the races people everybody hates.
I am not a fan of affirmative action, either, Mr. Bad Guy. However, since companies are still hiring/firing/promoting people based on race/ethnicity/gender, is it necessary?
The way it is now, affirmative action is somewhat like welfare. States have to give out so much in aide in order to get certain federal moneys. Companies too. But, if the local population is 10% “minority” then they hire 9 percent of that in their janitorial, dining room, or secretarial staff. Nothing wrong with those jobs, but it seems as though those are just about the only jobs we get! … Now, many companies do have professional staff that is non-white, but you have to go to the bigger cities to see that, for the most part…
Remember why we needed affirmative action in the first place. We still do, but it needs to be revamped (just like welfare)….
I agree. It is like anything the government does. They implement a necessary policy, at least for that particular time, to please the people, then allow that policy to decay and outdate itself, never to be revamped, until it is a mockery of what it once was, UNLESS it lines their pockets and greases their palms. The same came be said about welfare,as you mentioned, the penal system, the tax system and probably several other Billion dollar programs and systems that I cant conjure at this time.
I feel u on that Mr.Bad Guy and u have a valid point no 1 should he hired on just the sole basis of them being a color sex etc but let’s be real most of Obeezee’s votes were bcuz he is at least half black well not most but a percentage anyway. Employers would not have any pre notions about me well xxxcept when it comes 2 the race part of the app. I guess they c that and say “sorry, we are not hiring but will keep ur app on file”. aka the shredder.

Just because a company hired a “minority” doesnt mean they have to be totally fair when it comes to salaries, raises, promotions, benefits, time off, etc…. so what is really the point of it. A while back, I heard a Jewish politician say, “the best way to control your opposition is to fund it.” This has been the policy of different Jewish entities. It works because when you fund something, you can control just how far it can go and you can always beat it just by the threat of stopping the support. This is why ALL preachers, politicians, and “community organizations” who take money from “The Man” are puppets. “The Man” funds them and tells them how to run their agendas, who to hire and promote, what to say to the media, etc.
These students are racists and are really showing their Asses to everyone who’s not like them.
See, White people who cry “reverse discrimination” (which is really an impossibility) or decry affirmative action, fail to point this out: The system has always been racist. Always. Let’s face it, most of the people who are well off financially in this country are white. The advantage that whites have over all other races started the day they set foot on this land and continues through today. This economic system has been built with white people at the top of the pyramid. Racial discrimination has ruled in ALL aspects of life. These Republican college students conveniently ignore the fact that the SAT (which is one of key determining factors in college admissions. Especially the elite colleges and universities, such as Berkley, Harvard, Stanford, etc) has been found to be racist. The recommendation years ago was that it should be changed. Nothing has been done to it…..
If you are white and have worked to get what you have, congratulations. That is the way it should be. Not all of us are given that opportunity. Whites have that opportunity built in at birth.
