I apologize in advance for the slightly local skew.  I do realize that the Highbrid Nation has taken over and exercised worldwide domination but I do think this has relevance to every hood around the globe.

That said, whenever and wherever gun violence exists its sad.  There’s no excuse at anytime for an individual to needlessly pull a gun on another human in effort to resolve differences. So we cringe when we hear in the media that over the weekend in that 48 people were shot in New York City.  I repeat SHOT not killed.  Although a distinction shouldn’t be made unless one of thanks due to the almighty for saving the victims lives, none the less an important difference to be noted. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday that not only was he blaming the violence on a spike in the trafficking of illegal handguns, the lack of help from the Feds but more directly the West Indian Day Parade.

Yo.  I’m really sick and tired of this racist bullsh*t pulled on the part of the Media and cosigned by politicians.  Let me put this into context for those not from the crib.  Every Labor Day the annual West Indian Day Parade takes place down Eastern Parkway in my old stomping grounds of Crown Heights, Brooklyn.  Its the second largest carnival in the world, even larger than Trinidad and Tobago’s original version and just smaller than that in Brazil.  Unlike other such celebrations like the St. Patrick’s Day, Puerto Rican Day and Gay Pride Parades, the West Indian Carnival is the ONLY one to take place outside of Manhattan.  Reasons why will be debated for generations.

My beef is that the Mayor in cahoots with the NYC Media have conspired together to blame this weekend’s record level of gun violence on those celebrating the parade who, oh by the way, happen to be poorer, immigrant citizens.  Now the parade is no peace party.  Certainly the sheer volume of people dictates that there be serious police presence and EVERY year there’s a stabbing or two and perhaps a shooting.  Tempers flare and these young knuckleheads with their pants strapped around their calves might just start slapboxing and someone catches feelings.  I’m not excusing that.  But if you choose to do your own self examination instead of just buying what Bloomberg and the media are feeding you, you’ll see something different.  Of those 48 shootings, yes three people were wounded including two police officers a few blocks from Parade.  You want to attribute that to parade goers or “revelers” as they’re called?  SURE! But what about the eight people, including three children that were shot at a crowded backyard party in the Bronx early Sunday?  Doesn’t that skew the numbers?

If you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop I’ll kill the suspense.  Bloomberg, like Mayor Giuliani before him always hated the parade and were looking for reasons to close it down.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they under reported the shooting numbers from the week before just to have them intentionally increase the count over the weekend.  Granted none of these shootings actually took place AT THE PARADE but we’ll throw em under the bus anyway and call it day.  No more West Indian Carnival next year.  While I’ve never been a big fan of the free for all event, I know a lot of people who love it and you know me, I’ll fight for what’s right.  Next time Bloomberg, might want to use a little bit more mascara when putting on your camouflage.
