In Honor of 9/11, Souljaboy Says ‘F*ck The Troops’
No seriously, his new single shows just how dumb an and disrespectful an individual can be

I always knew this kid was nuts but I’ll admit I have given him his props once or twice. But since being exposed by the milk cartoned Katstacks, Mr. Souljaboytellem has been on a downward spiral. In his latest attempt at career suicide, the entertainer went for the jugular in his new single, “Let’s Be Real” taking the NWA ball and running to the end-zone.
“Fuck the FBI and the army troops, fighting for what? Be your own man, I’ll be flying through the clouds with green like I’m Peter Pan.”
While it might at first seem like eh, its hip hop. We’re revolutionaries, rage against the machine, fight the power. The problem is that NWA and Public Enemy knew what they were doing. They were fighting opression, police brutality and for equality. Souljaboy? Not so much.
There’s so much wrong with his lyrics its hard to know where to start. For one, To release a single like this within a waft of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is totally brainless. Secondly, fighting for this country is an honor. Though I have never myself, I know there are many members of the Nation who have and do and for them I forever grateful. It is the ultimate sacrifice. They are men and women risking their lives oversees to he might have the RIGHT to make his asinine comments. Additionally, many of are armed forces do so without questioning the authority even when they disagree with the cause. Its all about the country and pride.
It would seem so clear to him these points especially since many of those serving in the military are right in his sweet spot demo. Not a real good look when you ignorantly come out and say F*ck all yall that buy my records in a day and age when it hard as hell to do so. Surprisingly enough this isn’t the first time he’s done it either. In the words of Levar Burton, “you don’t have to take my word for it” here’s Fred A. Flores, commissioner for the L.A. County Veteran’s Advisory Commission:
It’s a very offensive statement … especially with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up. He should apologize to ALL armed forces. [The rap] is very irresponsible especially for a person who is an entertainer for the youth of our country.\

Souljaboy recently took to Globalgrind to issue a "retraction" of his comments
“As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong. When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.”
“As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end. I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war. Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, damn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend … in 3 days … I’m not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people.”
“In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms … a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in … In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in. I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry.”
I guess I gotta give the guy some credit for admitting his wrong but that’s about it.

As a member of the US military, F*ck THIS DUDE!!! I know folks are entitled to their opinion, but damn…Sometimes its better to keep you opinions to yourself…I serve and I am damn proud of it…Crap like this really pisses me off b/c wimps like this dude wants to jaw jack about something he knows nothing about…All he sees is what the TV puts out there, not what the real deal is…I was never a fan of his anyway…

Not a fan of SB, but his views on the armed forces aren’t new. His lyrics aren’t a million miles away from those sentiments expressed by PE & the wider Hip Hop Community, as Tragedy so eloquently put it, ” They played You Out like a Soldier! ”
Is SB actually responsible for the scheduling of his release dates? I take your point regarding Career Suicide, in so far as losing Universal appeal, but, Patriotism has never been a prerogative associated with the Hip Hop Community.
Now I reiterate I am in NO WAY a SB fan, but, without actually making reference to the events of 9/11 which he could have easily done, I don’t feel he was being insensitive or disrespectful to the memory of those killed on 9/11. I think we are being a little self righteous on this one.
“Be your own man?” very few artists who depend on record sales/concerts are their “own man.” They go by popular opinion or whatever the record label tells them, because they just about own them…I always got a kick out of people who say they are their own man, or they have “their own style” (in fashion). Unless you are designing and sewing your own clothes, you don’t have your own style. We all basically dress alike, with variations according to our personalities/budgets. Trendsetter artists have been people who sparked worldwide hysteria by how they dressed, like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince and more recently, Lady Gaga (and I can’t stand her, just giving credit where is due) …but I digress…….This dude SB is a fool.
