[RANT] Who Told Raekwon We Wanted To See a Biopic about Him?
How does one produce his OWN biopic…while he’s still alive?
@raekwonicewater #biopic
Good Morning Family. How is the Nation feeling? I know I’ve been off the grid for some time but I think I missed this story or intentionally have selective memory about it. Raekwon has a biopic? Are you serious?
News broke yesterday that Rae, whose PRODUCING the film enlisted the services of his good friend Cee-Lo Green to play the part of his father.
“[He’s] a good friend of mine. When I called him and told him about it he was just overwhelmed. He’s just one out of the greats that’s gonna be on the project.”
Cee-Lo joins a cast that already includes The Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish, who will play a younger version of the Staten Island, New York native. Rae is looking to strike a deal with Lions Gate.
“We’re definitely going for the theaters,” he continued. “The people that are gonna be involved with it definitely feel like it’s a great picture, and there’s a definite possibility it’s a Lions Gate film.”
Who really wants to know about Raekwon? I mean I love the Wu and I appreciate Rae’s music but correct me if I’m wrong, he’s still alive right? I mean how can you have a biopic about someone whose still here? Notorious was a really good film and I’d suspect the pending 2Pac and Bob Marley films will be decent as well. But those are lives that defined an era and they’re dead! I mean what if some astronomical event happens in Rae’s life subsequent to its release, it would be pretty silly. Would they make a part 2?
I mean I get it. We live in such a self absorbed society where every Tom, Dick and Harry believes they can have a reality TV show and those that don’t, think they’re so important that their every move from eating a burger to washing their balls must be played out on their favorite social network. So I’m not surprised that entertainers especially rappers would now be under the impression that we’d be interested in hearing about their sob story about they grew up without a daddy sold drugs got pinched and turned to music. But to produce your own? While you’re still here? That goes beyond vain. Its disrespectful of each and everyone of ours time. I don’t care if I was the biggest Wu fan, there’s no way I’d pay the price of admission to see the biased video autobiography of a man….Then again I probably a hypocrit while I didn’t see it in the theaters I did enjoy 8 mile.
FILED IN Editorials, Movies, Need to Know

Maybe dude has a story worth telling. I’m not a Rae fan, but maybe there is something exceptional about his life that he believes warrants a movie. I HIGHLY doubt it….but like you said, I can’t stomach another whoa is me story filled with drugs and poor parenting. 8 Mile, Notorious, Get rich…all the same story. Not to put down what these cats went through to get to where they are, but there better be an assisnation attempt, gubment cover-up or alien abduction to make me give a damn about another rapper bio-pic.
I know I won’t see it if it goes to theaters but I might check out the dvd lol…..I can’t knock his hustle…he can say all kinds of reasons as to why he’s doing it but no one would really know. Oh well..
C.R.E.A.M. dolla dolla bills yall
U have a point 2 a degree but there were a few Bio-pics that have graced the Lens and movie goers yet the person that the film is about is or was still alive .XXXample Ali with Will Smith , Fantasia made it 2 the small screen .What’s Love Got 2 Do with it. Tina Turner is very much alive.Even 1 of my all time Fav flicks “Purple Rain” was described as semi-auto biographical,aka half truths Lol. Ali even played himself in a Movie called “the Greatest” in the 70′s so it has and can happen while u r alive. Ray starring J.Foxx was shot while Ray Charles was still alive. “8 mile” as u mentioned was done with Em taking on a the role of a familiar character to himself .As 4 Rae doing his thing I won’t say it wont hit the big screen bcuz it will, some1 will watch it on DVD with the 52 inch. I know I will…..maybe.
I’ll leave it up to the studio to see if it’s worth anything. There is no pre-existing demand for a bio-pic for homeboy but if they(Lionsgate) find his story interesting enough to invest in, then maybe it will be worth seeing. He can self-produce whatever he wants but he needs distribution dolla dolla bills y’all.
