Obama Gives Boehner’s ‘Mantrum’ The Side Eye as he leaves Debt Ceiling Talks

Country braces as Aug 2nd Deadline Looms

If you didn’t know how important getting a compromise reached on the debt ceiling was, just peep President Obama angry tirade today after being pissed at House Speaker John A. Boehner’s abrupt withdrawal from the negotiations.  Earlier Boehner decided not to longer pursue a major deficit-reduction deal with the White House.

The White House moved the goal posts,” he said referencing Obama’s demand of $400 billion in revenues beyond what the two had already agreed to. “It’s the president who walked away from his agreement and demanded more money at the last minute.”

“In the end we couldn’t connect. Not because of different personalities, but because of different visions for our country,” Boehner wrote in a letter to his Republican colleagues. “I have decided to end discussions with the White House and begin conversations with the Senate in an effort to find a path forward.”

Beohner’s withdrawal comes as a shock as reports stewed on Thursday that the two appeared to be close to a deal that would have raised the debt ceiling through 2013 and mandated the spending cuts and entitlement reforms to achieve $3 trillion in deficit reduction Republicans were looking for.  In response the President summoned congressional leaders to the White House on Saturday for emergency talks to plot a new course before the fast approaching Aug. 2 deadline.

In an unusual display of emotion, President Obama angrily responded to House Speaker John A. Boehner’s abrupt withdrawal from talks on a debt ceiling increase, and summoned congressional leaders to the White House on Saturday for emergency talks to plot a new course before the Aug. 2 deadline.“We have run out of time,” the president said in a hastily-called news briefing, just moments after Boehner informed him of his decision.

On Thursday, Obama and Boehner appeared to be closing in on a deal that would have raised the debt ceiling through 2013, combined with spending cuts and entitlement reforms to achieve $3 trillion in deficit reduction.

This isn’t going to end well. Not for us regular folks anyway. Debt my ass…..

I feel everyone. But I think he should only veto if the bill that was offered has not at least one of the compromises he is looking for. But when it is all said and done I think that the deal that was made was BS. And the only reason for this is to keep President Obama a one term president Only because he is black.

The speeches tonight (Monday) were not a good sign.
    .
The first thing I noticed was that the President was off his game. I don’t know if it’s because he feels uncomfortable on the subject of the economy, or if he’s worried about the situation, but his vocal technique lacked his usual coolness and self-confidence. To be honest, he sounded worried.
    .
The republican speech that followed did not reassure me. My read of the two speeches and the ploys behind them is this…
    .
It sounds like the republicans are taking the position that there will be one more bill. It will be passed by the congress, and it will be left up to Obama to sign it or to veto it. If he signs it, business as usual. If he doesn’t sign it, default and possible economic collapse.
    .
But here’s where it gets nasty… the republicans are going to offer him nothing. They’re not going to give him an extension past the election; they won’t give him anything on the revenue side (taxing the rich).
    .
They’re going to send him a bill that takes everything they want, but nothing that the President wants. And then they’re going to rub his nose in it and dare him to veto it.
    .
They’re hope is that he won’t veto it. They are banking on his compassion to prevent him from defaulting the country.
    .
My concern… being roughly the same age and temperament as the President, in his position I might veto it just for the principle of not being blackmailed.

I agree Malcolm, he should just veto it. I mean, Obama needs to show him that he’s not just another puppet in the White House. Of course there are risks but I would respect Obama more for taking the risk rather than sitting back and watching the Republicans take control and basically laughing at him. I just hope they don’t JFK him…if you’re not with them, you’re against them. And we all know thats never good.
