HBO has long been known for the development of its characters, so real that we identify them with their respective roles than with the actor themselves.  “Tony Soprano”, “Adabisi”, “Omar” from The Wire…the list goes on.  For Danny McBride, it’ll be very hard to shake his identification with “Kenny Powers”.  But from the looks of it, the fictional baseball pitcher from the HBO series Eastbound and Down plans to milk it for all its worth.

Already the spokesman for K-Swiss, his appearance in their ad campaign is said to have increased sales up to 250%.  And now it appears he’s not settling for spokesman and planning to take a higher position by force.   He has appointed himself “the mother f’ing CEO” in a new viral video and bringing some henchman as backup. Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels, Kansas City Chiefs’ Quarterback Matt Cassel, San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Patrick Willis, wrestler Ray Mysterio, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and MMA fighters Urijah Faber and Jon “Bones” Jones were all brought along as muscle.

“Before you say anything, prepare to shut the fu!k up,” says Powers.

Powers is crazy.  hahaha.  I think the intense character development HBO is known for is perfect for identifying with brands.  You don’t have to worry about them getting arrested, going to rehab or beating their wives because if they do, its all part of the script anyway.  As long as the fictitious character is in line with the brand image you’re good to go.  K Swiss is always fighting an uphill battle with the likes of Nike so why not go for it.  Looks like its working.  Strong Salute to K Swiss on this one.
