SOUND OFF: What is the Price of Success?
What exactly are you choosing by the pursuit?

#Success
A couple of weeks ago I asked the Nation to convene around the topic of success. I promised to continue the theme in subsequent posts as I’m sure at the age that many of us are at, its the product of much thought and conversation in our private lives. Today I want to discuss the cost of success.
I think its safe to say that we all realize nothing is for free. Anything worth having is paid for in tangible currency, sweat equity or some deeper, darker, more sinister value. In an example most related to Hip Hop, rumors have swirled for years that curiously untalented artists and music executives have ascended to their level of success through sexual favors, some even of a covert homosexual nature. While I certainly don’t know this to be the case, success is paid in the past, current or sometimes future. Celebrity Rehab is perfect example of the later. Everyone deals with demons, they’re just not always visible on the surface.
What about you? Who is determining what success means for you? What exactly are you CHOOSING (because we all make a choice) by your pursuit of success? SOUND OFF: What price are you paying to achieve success?

I THINK THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY DETERMINES WHAT YOUR “SUCCESS” SHOULD BE, COLLEGE EDUCATION, TRADE SCHOOLS AND ETC, BUT MAINLY MATERIAL THINGS, EVERYTHING IN LIFE COMES WITH SACRIFICE, BUT IF YOUR BACKBONE AKA SUPPORT SYSTEM IS GOOD, THEN EVERYTHING WILL BE MUCH SMOOTHER, NOW IF I WAS SELFISH AND SELF CENTERED, MY SUCCESS WOULD’NT COME WITH A PRICE CAUSE ALL THE SHALLOW THINGS I’VE EVER WANTED WOULD BE MINE, THE PRICE I’VE PAID FOR MY SUCCESS HAS BEEN BEING AWAY FROM MY FAM, THAT HURT, BUT THEY UNDERSTOOD AND STOOD BY ME THROUGH THICK NAD THIN, FOR THAT REASON I WAS WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS AND SEEING MY FAM HAPPY, HAS MADE IT WELL WORTH IT.
Turn off your caps lock.
RELAX DUDE, YOU’RE BE THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS AN ISSUE WITH MY SHIT BEING ON CAPS, REGARDLESS IF ITS IN SMALL OR LARGE LETTERS, I STILL GET MY POINT ACCROSS, THIS IS MEANT FOR DISCUSSIONS AND NOT COMPLAINTS ABOUT WETHER WORDS ARE IN CAPS, IS YOUR “SUCCESS” DEFINED ON ME TYPING WORDS IN CAPS?, LMFAO.
Another good topic.

In my pursuit of success, I have racked up over 50 grand of debt, 90% student loans. While I was working toward my degree I was working full time, about 30 miles from where I live. I was getting up at 0430 to be at work for 0630 to leave at 1600 to be in class at 1800, to get home by 2300, shit, eat, study, do homework, get some form of sleep (sometimes at my computer, or while eating), all to repeat that same cycle at least three time a week, all while married with chldren.
.
The true measure of success in my particular opinion due to situation, was whether or not the sacrifice paid off or can I see it paying off in the near future(no more than three years) with some form of longevity.
My success will be determined by how people remember me when I am gone…None of my children met my father, he was already gone when they were born. Yet, if you talk to them, you’d think their grandfather died last year…they think my father was the coolest person to ever live. He was to me.
I dig that. Respect.
Sacrifice and dedication. You sacrifice spending time with your family to be at work, whether it be staying late, coming in early, even working on weekends. Sacrificing your lunch hour to get work done because no one will do it for you. Dedicating yourself to do the best. If I didn’t dedicate myself I’m sure I would not be where I’m at now. I may not love my job but I am dedicated to doing the best that I can for as long as I’m here. I think whatever the career for people may be, as long as you dedicate yourself and make sacrifices, in the end you will see some sort of success.
