Att. Gen. Eric Holder Demands ‘The Wire’ Make a Comeback
I couldn’t agree with him more. I think we should start a campaign. Thoughts?

@RealDavidSimon @HBO #TheWire
So get this, Attorney General Eric Holder has ORDERED the writers of HBO’s wildly popular and now completed “The Wire” to create more episodes or a movie. I’ve written many posts about “The Wire” being one of if not the best shows of all time save “The Cosby Show” and to my delight I haven’t gotten much kickback from the Nation. The show which depicted the drama of life on the streets of Baltimore and the thin line between good and evil, city police and drug dealers, thugs and politicians. Set in a city I don’t particularly care too much for, The Wire managed to captivate a cult following and each Sunday draw us into the ever changing lives of those just trying to make in Baltimore.
Last week, the Attorney General flanked by three of the show’s actors ( Wendell Pierce – Det. Bunk, Sonja Sohn who played Det. Kima Greggs and Jim True-Frost who played the cop-turned-teacher Roland Pryzbylewski) held a press conference to bring awareness protecting children against drug abuse and exploitation. In effort to illustrate his point, Holder DEMANDED the show’s writers David Simon and Ed Burns who are also responsible for HBO’s “Treme” to get back to work.
“I want to speak directly to Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon: Do another season of ‘The Wire’,” Holder said, which drew a spattering of applause from the audience. “That’s actually at a minimum. … If you don’t do a season, do a movie. We’ve done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie. I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon.”
He said it jokingly but when you consider the venue and the event it speaks to the power of the show. It opened the eyes of people from all walks to a world that exists in every city in America but often ignored. Fighting crime and drugs just isn’t as easy as locking people up or putting more police on a street corner. Every action has and equal and opposite reaction. We need to realize that every move made on the political chess boards of America’s great cities adversely effects the lives of some no matter how you dice it. The Wire pointed out the inconsistencies of our systems and the sacrifices made by all so that we can somehow sleep at night…or for some to not sleep at night.
Great Show! I’m with the Attorney General. If BET can manage to bring back that corny show “The Game” we can manage to an even more politically important show, “The Wire” back on TV and if not, to the big screen. I don’t need to see another “Sex and the City” hell I’ll pass on a “Sopranos” movie if they’ll do one for “The Wire.” Whose with me. Let’s get the campaign going.

Very intelligent show. It was well written and the actors were superb. I would love to see the wire make a come back maybe a different city. I felt it was a continuation of the show “the corner”.
I’m with you all the way.i may be wrong, but I remember hearing about them thinking of another season focusing more on the latina perspective of city life instead of african- americans, but then again that was like 3 years ago. I believe they said the writers didn’t have the knowledge of it to pull that off.
I agree with Ga$tateofMind….. Get the wire in a more muticultural arena. It will lead to a bigger cast, broader story line. More tendency for spin-offs and such.
