This morning when I got up, I saw that CNN actually expended a full 8-10 minute segment on disputing the claims that Donald Trump has made questioning President Obama’s place of birth.  While the man might not even run for office and has little political credibility its quite shameful to see he’s drawn valuable resources away from the news outlet to chase down and dispute his baseless claims.  Despite it all, recent studies still suggest 25% of Americans believe the President was born outside of the U.S. despite evidence.  Oh well. 

Looks like the Donald is on to new wild goose chases however.  Now, he’s questioning whether or not he earned the right to receive an Ivy League education.

In an interview with the AP,  Trump claimed Obama’s accademic record was too poor to have been admitted to the Ivy League universities he attended. Naturally he had no proof of the such but then again he didn’t have any proof of the President’s international birth either. 

“I heard he was a terrible student, terrible. How does a bad student go to Columbia and then to Harvard?” Trump suggested. “I’m thinking about it, I’m certainly looking into it. Let him show his records.”

Obama graduated from Columbia University in New York in 1983 with a degree in political science after transferring from Occidental College in California. He went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude 1991 and was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review.  Doesn’t really sound like a bad educational history if you ask me.  But there is that fact that Obama’s 2008 campaign did not release his college transcripts.  And maybe The Donald was paraphrasing lines from Obama’s best-selling memoir, “Dreams From My Father,” in which he indicated he hadn’t always been a standout academically.  Trump claims this “secretive” behavior means something.  He’s just not sure what it is. 

“I have friends who have smart sons with great marks, great boards, great everything and they can’t get into Harvard,” Trump said. “We don’t know a thing about this guy. There are a lot of questions that are unanswered about our president.”

While the Republican’s opposition to The President has been light thus far, this so-called “birther” controversy has been mildly entertaining at best and has keep the news outlets occupied.  I’m wondering whether or not Trump ever had to prove his hair was a toupee or not.  I mean its a good tactic if you can get your opponent to respond to these baseless claims. Throw a bunch of things on the wall and hope one sticks.  The only problem is the President hasn’t been interested in playing his game and hasn’t offered any proof of his residency despite the fact it exists.

“I have more people that are excited about the fact that I reinvigorated this whole issue,” Trump added. “the last guy (Obama) wants to run against is Donald Trump.”

I guess we’ll have to see won’t we?
