Remember the cover of Notorious B.I.G.‘s “Ready to Die” album? Remember the clean white background with the baby sitting on the floor? For years I always asumed it was BIG’s son CJ until someone enlighted me otherwise. In fact, it has become one of Hip Hop’s now urban legends. Who is the “Ready To Die” baby?
Well after 17 years and three weeks after the 14th anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G. The New York Daily News says they have solved the mystery and identified the afro-sporting baby on the cover of the album as now 18-year-old Bronx native, Keithroy Yearwood.
Last year, RapRadar.com asked Diddy to identify the baby in effort to recreate the image with the original photographer, Butch Belair but even Puff had no idea then the impact the image would have an thus never thought to keep a record.
“That was a baby we just found ….We did a little casting for somebody that looked like Big.”
Now, a high school senior, Yearwood, says he’s that chubby-cheeked kid on the cover.
“Every time people find out they ask me if I got a lot of money out of it,” Yearwood, told the Daily News.
He says he only made $150 for the two-hour modeling agency shoot
“I just want people to know that’s me,” Yearwood said. “The truth is finally coming out.”
No one was sure – not even the graphic designer of the album, Cey Adams. “That ended up being one of the most-asked questions of all-time,” said Adams, who thought the baby was the son of a hairstylist that worked at the record label.
