To Little Fanfare, Da Brat Released From Prison Tweets Jermaine Dupri

Posted by Juan

Can she capitalize on the street cred equity gained by her bid and steal some Nicki market-share or fade into Bolivia?

To very little fanfare and as we learned very unbeknown to me, Da Brat was sentenced three years in prison stemming from a conviction for aggravated assault in late 2007, when she allegedly popped bottle on the side of a waitresses head at the Studio 72 nightclub in Atlanta.  Well there was just as little hoopla when she was released.  If it weren’t for a tweet from long-time collaborator, Jermaine Dupri, hell we all might have forever forgotten all about her save a rare old school at noon spin.

@LTLLine: “Happy day for me and all SO SO DEF fans, Da BRAT is finally home”

Da Brat is now 36 years old and its unclear what her plans are but what is however clear is the game has changed for female rappers.  With the emergence of Nicki Minaj, the femcee now has a voice and an audience.  Could this be an opportunity for Da Brat to try and capitalize on that street cred equity gained from her jail bid and steal some Minaj market-share or will it end up in much the same fashion of fellow ex-con, Shyne? Its unknown if Da Brat converted to Ultra-Conservative Judiasm while serving her time.

Nearly a year later, a judge sentenced her to three years in prison. At the time, Brat’s attorney said she was remorseful over what had happened and said she was “willing to accept responsibility.”
