Citing Christian Duty, 2 Churches Share Space w/ Muslims. Mike Huckabee Angry
Should we not share with our brothers and sisters despite religious differences? Or did 9/11 change those sentiments?
Its funny. For thousands and thousands of years Jews and Muslims have been engaged in an ongoing Holy war or jihad. Ironically however, in my hometown of Brooklyn they live side-by-side in close neighborhood proximity. You would think when migrating to the U.S. the two groups would chose to live as far from each other as possible, yet in areas like Kensington they’re neighbors. Its almost as if the conflict has been such a part of who they are culturally that they can’t exist without co-habitation amid religious tension. Since 9/11 similar animosities have existed between Muslims and Christians.
However, two Protestant churches are choosing to share their home for a different reason. Heartsong Church in Cordova, Tenn., let members of the Memphis Islamic Center hold Ramadan prayers there last September. Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Va., allows the Islamic Circle of North America to hold regular Friday prayers in their building while their new mosque is being built. The churches defend their actions despite critisicm stating that “its the Christian thing to do”, even for those that don’t share your beliefs.
Obviously such benevolence post-9/11 is bound to drum up some heat among ignorant critics. Take Mike Huckabee for instance. The former Arkansas governor who is considering a 2012 Presidential bid, told “Fox and Friends” recently that he did not understand why churches would engage in such a heinous acts.
“If the purpose of a church is to push forth the gospel of Jesus Christ,” Huckabee said. “then you have a Muslim group that says that Jesus Christ and all the people that follow him are a bunch of infidels who should be essentially obliterated, I guess I have a hard time understanding that.”
Bunch of infidels? Obliterated?! Ouch! Is that what you feel Islam is all about Mikey? Way to take a well organized point and squander it with ignorance. Yesterday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations called Huckabee’s comments divisive and demanded an apology. Additionally they proposed that he meet with Muslim leaders to discuss religion tolerance.
Look i get it. There is a large contingent of Americans still so upset (and rightfully so) about Islam’s role in 9/11 that while they might not feel direct malice towards Muslim’s they would rather not associate with them in any capacity. This is the separatist ideology that essentially fueled segregation. But are we not more advanced than that as a society that a man who might be President might think that a simple action of “sharing” something we learned in Pre-School, on Sesame Street for goodness sake should be usurped? I know this whole Ground Zero Cultural Center and Barack Obama’s Islamic past has got everyone’s Christian garbs in a bunch but lets be more mature here. GROW UP AMERICA. We sound like a bunch of spoiled rich kid pansies. Oh yeah…we are.

“operation false flag” look it up! america attacks itself to get the public to believe someone else did it. so this new hate for muslims was no accident. we did the same thing with oearl harbor. we created aids and blamed on a monkey in africa. see where im goin with this? we as americans or christians for that matter should not be hating other religions until you do some research. with all this bein said if you believe in a heaven its said to be all kind of people there from all walks of life.so if thats the case wouldnt there be muslims, christians, budahist,catholic and so on, so how can you get there with hate in your heart? religion is very devisive get to know god for yourself its within you! once you do that this religous crap will be irrelevant.

First of all let me say that the church’s purpose is not to “push forth the gospel of Jesus Christ”!! It is to welcome all of God’s children to come to one of his homes and worship him. To feel at home themselves. And no I do not believe in organized religion. I just believe in God. Now that I got that out of the way…lol…I think that after all this time it is ignorant to even speak on the muslims in a negative way. The 9/11 attacks (in my opinion) were more political than religious(although religious beliefs were partly the basis of the attacks themselves). I have lived overseas and you get nothing but U.S. news channels. I myself didn’t even realize how violent we were really were compared to some other countries until I got over there. There is nothing but bad news. I think that Huckabee is an ass, but I also think that this is good publicity for a good thing. I think its wonderful that there is no conflict. Just shows there are still TRUE christians that open their hearts in this way. F**k Mike Huckabee
I think the great thing as you mentioned is while showing an ass for what he is you’re also highlighting a heartwarming story. The best of all worlds.
First, let’s get it straight: Islam had NO ROLE in 911; or, how much of a role did Christianity have in Tim McVeigh’s attack on that federal building? Anyone talk about that? Secondly, Jesus is held in very high esteem in the Holy Qur’an (side note, other than the Prophet Muhammad, the most often named prophet in the Holy Qur’an is Moses, who is the most important prophet to Jews)…
The Moors, Muslims, who conquered and ruled Spain and neighboring parts and controlled the Mediterranean Sea for 800 yrs, actually allowed Christianity to thrive. They, in fact, required Europeans to practice their chosen religion. They brought civilization to Europe and brought them out of the Dark Ages.
Its funny. My intern is a Muslim from Turkey. He put it to 4PL this way one day. Muslims believe in Jesus. Its the Christians that don’t believe in Muhammad. Chew on that.
Its funny how the same religion is so different for different races. African american communities have had Muslims and Christitans living together for years, due in large part to us not having the money or land to seperate ourselves (only so many neighborhoods that white folks would let us live) but if you mention this to a person like Mike Huckabee its “hard to understand”. I was raised in a baptist church and taught that only God can judge. Our job is to love and live. Most minority communities do this as much for survival as for security.
