SOUND OFF: Against All Odds Should President Obama Run For Re-Election?
Given criticism of his job performance, and immanent cuts to programming for his voting base, can he even win?

There’s a lot of work to do if he wants a second term
I voted for President Obama. I’m sure many of you did as well. But will it happen again? According to a new CNN poll Roughly 51 percent of Americans expect President Obama to lose his 2012 re-election bid leaving just fewer than 46 percent confident he’ll win re-election, making him the first to fail to do so since President George H.W. Bush.
While these polls rarely mean anything it begs a question I’ve been wanting to gauge your opinion on SHOULD HE run again. Its no secret that the President took on a very difficult task when elected. The economy at the time was in a nose dive and had yet to reach rock bottom, unemployment was plummeting and the Iraqi war was leaking money and casualties by the minute. While the President has spent much of his first time patching the boat he’s been unable to deal with new problems like the Gulf Oil Spill (which oh by the way no one talks about anymore) and the unrest in Egypt.
Now comes reports that President Obama’s 2012 budget will cut deeply into federal spending for programs and services that provide needs of the poor. A few weeks back in my analysis of the President’s State of the Union speech I made mention of the curious omission of any mention about the poor and the more than 44 million Americans living in poverty. Well I guess the other shoe has dropped and we’ll soon find out why. The fact of the matter is President Obama continues to set himself up for failure by making consessions to the opposition party which would have his head.
Last fall, Tea Party House Budget Committee chair Paul Ryan called for $100 billion dollars in spending be slashed from the Federal budget. In a consession Obama dropped issued a directive for federal agencies to slash spending to the collective tune of $75 billion from discretionary spending for 2012. With many of America’s poorest citizens supporting the President in his election, he’s alienating a large contingent of his base with his plans to cut their aide which may appease Republicans but also play right into their hands to oust him.
While the poll might not be a referendum on the future its a sign that things might need to change. While the new poll finds that 26 percent of registered voters will definitely vote for President Obama in the 2012 election that number is likely to decrease when the new budget is announced on February 14th and even further when the new cuts take effect next year.

It isn’t a matter of should he run. We all know that he will. The question is will he win. I honestly don’t know that right now. I don’t know who will run against him and I’m still not sure how the infamous Compromise will come back to haunt him. All I know right now is that the Unemployment numbers are BS because a lot of people CAN NOT file for unemployment and have had their unemployment run out, so don’t believe the BS statistics about unemployment. Most of these unemployed people voted for Obama, will they again?! Don’t know.
I believe that he will run again but I really don’t think that he’ll win. He’s gotten so much crap ever after his first year in office, I think its going to be hard for him to get re-elected. Especially if Sarah Palin’s ass ends up running for president then you already know damn near all republicans will love that. Hell lets be real here, all white people will love that. Every day I hear white people at my company complain about President Obama, and I don’t understand their complaints. To me, it seems more like a hate towards him because he isn’t white. Occasionally they’ll talk about the healthcare and say that he fucked it up for everyone but I don’t agree with them. I’m hispanic, and I was extremely happy and excited when he won the election. I’ll even admit that I got a little teary in my eyes when he stood there and thanked America for change. It was a great moment that will forever be historical. I’m so thankful that I was able to witness that in my life. That being said, I want him to run for re-election and I pray that he wins. Like my brother 2NA$$TEE said, he’ll need more that 2 yrs to turn the country around or make a difference. By the way, did any of yall see the interview he had with Bill before the superbowl? That prick tried to make Obama look like an idiot asking him if he knew anything about football!! I was hoping he’d put that faggot in his place…. lol

My question is why shouldn’t he run and win…? From day one people have been trying to take away his success as a President for no other reason than him being Black. I have listened to all of these rants and i have heard nothing that makes since to what another president would have done different in this climate. He has done what he ran on (and then some ) and mostly in his first two years. If he doesn’t win again then the blame is on us for not standing up for what we believe in.

And it can turn so quickly. A year before being forced out of office, Nixon won his reelection with what was then the greatest landslide in American history.

In my opinion, Obama as a historical figure is far more important than Obama the man or Obama the administration. As such, I think that his long-term value as a historical symbol does more good than any of his policies could.

If he leaves after one term, he leaves at his peak, he gets out before the second term curse hits him; he is looked back with fondness, he gets paid the same amount of money, and he retires a young man with his hair not entirely gray.

I don`t think he should run. I don`t think if he did that he would have a chance to win. And I DO think that he will leave the country or resign before he is arrested and brought up before the criminal courts for fraud.
