[RANT] Only 2 Black Actresses Make 50 Most Beautiful Women In Film List?!
Where are all the black beauties?! Oh so we’re good enough to entertain but not beautiful enough to make your lists?

The Los Angeles Times Magazine recently release its list of the 50 Most Beautiful Women In Film which you already know caught my attention. Among the many beautiful women which spanned the history of film were Halle Berry, Dorothy Dandridge and Jennifer Lopez. Beyonce who barely qualifies as an actress also made the list. I was very pleased to see Freida Pinto from “Slumdog Millionaire” fame make the list but like with any list this limiting there has to be some snubs. A lot of snubs.
I’d be delusional to believe that the black actress would be proportionately represented but to only land what TWO BLACK actresses and one Puerto Rican that’s ridiculous.

What no Pam Greir? How the hell do you leave off Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long? You’ve gotta be kidding me. Ok, she’s not a great actress but come on, Stacey Dash is one of the most beautiful women alive. Did they forget about Zoe Saldana? She was just in the biggest movie in history in Avatar? Lauren London, Kerry Washington? What about Angela Basset? Hell even Jada Pinkett-Smith? Did we forget about Jane Kennedy? Josephine Baker? Diahann Carroll??? Jeeze they’re still gorgeous compared to modern standards. Rita Hayworth and Farrah Fawcett couldn’t hold a candle to these women.
I couldn’t get LisaRaye? She’s very light skinned. They couldn’t humor me with Thandie Newton? Isn’t she almost white? Shit Paula Patton? She’s married to a white dude.
Catherine Zeta-Jones is pretty but is she more beautiful than all these women? Blake Lively? Isn’t that the chick from “Gossip Girl”? what is she like 15? I know Natalie Portman is hot right now with her Oscar-nominated “Black Swan” and I loved her in the Star Wars prequels but more beautiful than Nia long? Stacey Dash? Eh eh. And Julia Roberts? I don’t know, maybe its just me but she doesn’t belong on the list. This is the 50 most BEAUTIFUL of all time here! Bad Job L.A. Times, bad job.

There are 3 on the list Juan; Dorothy Dandridge, Halle Berry, and Beyonce knowles. My problem with the way hollyweird does us is that everytime a list of this kind is even printed the black women they acknowledge are all mixed(with the exception of Bey). I am a mixed woman and even I have a problem with that. Its almost like they are trying to determine for our sons and daughters what shades are defined as beautiful. Like if you dont have that hint of white in you then you just aren’t pretty enough. Although I have the same problem with the hip-hop world as well. All you see in rap videos are those women that are either white/black, latino/black, or just light-skinned. Dont get me wrong I am of mixed decent, but to see things like that upset me cause its like they are saying yeah I’m pretty but my sister(who isnt mixed and is hershey chocolate) isnt.
And let me add that Beyonce being on thati list DOES NOT make it right. She always seen with some extra long weave and honey blonde at that. The only time you get to see Beyonce’s true shade anyway is when you see paparazzi photos with her on a beach somewhere. Most of the time you dont get to see her TRUE black beauty. Between airbrushing, too much make-up, and all those long ridiculous ass blonde weaves she fits in hollywood’s “black-enough” status SMH
So true co sign, Hollyweird gives u the same toKKKens everytime Halle or Beyonce there so many beautiful shades of color in our women but they will not aknowledge that ever. It’s just like in the sexiest men Alive in White “People” magazine. I checked out the 25th Anniversary Edition and they only man darker than a napkin was Mr.Usual, Denzilly. I was pissed bcuz I was not on there again. It should not be just me and Mr.Washington as 4 the toKKKens , but I have yet 2 grace their stanKKK ass cover.
I wasn’t including Beyonce because to be quite honest I see her as a entertainer whose primary career is singing but I see your point.

Now, Juan, Chelle, you gotta keep in perspective who came up with this list. This is white men’s version of beauty, and Hollywood may be THE MOST racist institution in this country. Our list would obviously look different…Personally, it’s insulting to women to have a “top whatever” most beautiful. Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve seen gorgeous women. How can I say this one is more beautiful than that one?…My wife is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. she may not make someone else’s top thousand…..

Yea where is Gabrielle Union… beauty wise she puts half the women on this list to shame… but her skin must be to dark for the voters… honestly she has beautiful skin and some sexy as teeth and hair…. damn i can go on and on…. its a shame though, because these type of list/media bullshit tells little black and Hispanic girls they aren’t pretty enough….
I dug deep. From this list you can tell that I am into older women, they are usually more secure about themselves and usually know what they want out of life. Here is a few, some of these you may have to look back 20, maybe 30, maybe more years ago to fully see what I’m talking about.
Pam Grier, Nichelle Nicoles, Gloria Hendry, Angela Basette, Judy Pace, Phylisha Rashad, Diahann Carroll, Lena Horne, Kenya Moore, Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union,… I know I’m missing a dozen more… and these are mostly actresses I havent even went into singers yet….

That is actually course cirriculum in mortuary school. It delves into how people interpret beauty and appealing facial structures…. an aquaintence of mine is a mortuary science major…

studying media has helped me to understand this issue better, it is the rich, posh white man’s ideology of what beauty is which is reflected on this list, that’s why the only two black women have light skin. but personally i don’t really find many of these women attracted and likewise i probably would not expect them to find say Gabrielle Union attractive, which the list shows.
But another problem is the fact that the type of women which the majority of these women fit into are what young females are being told is the only “acceptable” image, which means that people are trying to achieve what seems to be “perfect”. instead of realizing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
