The Obama Brand: Barack Faux-Bama Pitches KFC Fish-which in Hong Kong

Posted by Juan

Has the Brand that Is “Obama” Become too campy to the point of disrespect or a referendum on his legacy?

@BarackObama @kfc_colonel #Brand
If you thought America was the only country that preached capitalism, think again.  Peep this latest KFC ad running in Hong Kong which uses a President Obama look-a-like to promote its Fish Fillet Soft Roll with the spoof tagline “Change is Good.”

I wanted to gauge your thoughts and reach out to the Racial Determination Committee on this one as we haven’t convened in quite some time.  Is this appropriate?  Is this a referendum on how the world sees our president as some character, a pitchman that can be subbed in from the bullpen to sell a few sandwiches real quick?  This is not racism, not about race at all so lets not go there but instead has President Obama’s character supplanted the man himself?  On the flipside what does this say about his legacy?  The last Presidents to have such personality equity were George Washington and Honest Abe.  Are we to think that 50, 100 years from now people dressed up like President Obama will be on TV commercials in effort to sell used cars?

  1. Mr. Bad Guy says:

    At least he wasn’t dancing and rapping for chicken…..I guess.

      This further solidifies the President Obama isnt just the First Black President of the United States or only a politician, he is a pop icon. And like all pop icons, he is open to be exploited to make a buck somewhere. All is fair in love, war, and capitalism.
      .
      Look at Bruce Lee and Mr. Miyagi in the those old claymation Brisk Tea commericals. Now an American company has to get Chairman Mao and the Dalai Lama look alikes for a commeriacal, and we will have Asia beat 2 to 1, which is even in America….
