[RANT] Highbrid Nation Remembers Haiti Where Most Have Forgotten

Posted by Juan

I wonder if they found oil in Haiti how quickly we’d once again remember and honor the victims of the Haitian Earthquake

#haiti
Earlier this week I took note of a very unassuming commercial that aired on my local TV station. On the surface it appeared to be like any other Accident Victims lawyer ad encouraging victims to step forward if they’ve been injured in an accident or a case of malpractice.  However this ad was asking for victims suffering from the adverse effect from the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.  The timing of course becomes that much more questionable as the President has just signed into law the five-year, $4.3 billion measure will provide medical treatment for emergency responders who became ill by toxic dust inhaled at the World Trade Center site in New York in the days following the attacks.

You’re probably asking yourself, what the hell does this have to do with Haiti?  My point is that our society has unfortunately only cared about a situation when it in someway involves money.  9/11 was a tragic day for all Americans to varying degrees.  Please don’t think I’m disparaging that day in any way.  However its no secret that some from lawyers, to lawmakers to unfortunately some victims have sought to profit from…and we’re 9 YEARS OUT!

For Haiti, the earthquake is but a forgotten memory accept to those who live there.  Its hard to believe it was a year ago that we were all texting our little $5 donations in and changing our Facebook profile pics to the Haitian Flag, donating cans of food and clothes instead of cover charges to get into parties.  But today, just one year from that fateful day where hundreds of thousands perished in an instant, we barely remember and our society doesn’t care much to remind us. Why?  Well Haiti aint got no money for society and the money it was donated was already exploited either for good, or very quickly for evil.

Case in point, I’m working from home for most of the day today due to the snow and have the CNN on in the background to drown out the deafening sound of loneliness.  While I’ve heard about the snow, Facebook issuing Amber Alerts, The The President visiting Arizona there was no mention of Haiti.  I’m not surprised.  Why report on a topic very few care about today or have a VESTED interest in still.

That’s unfortunate.  Because in a society where we can 9 years out sign bills to give $4.3 Billion in aide to those who admittedly suffered a tragic loss, we can’t in turn give a few dollars or least yet some attention to our brothers and sistres who would settle for a lot, lot less.  Its almost as if with the 9/11 slogan being “We Shall Never Forget” The Haiti slogan should be “Hopefully we’ll forget as quick as possible.”

So I challenge you today to buck the norm.  Do something today that you weren’t planning to when you woke up to show you still remember.  I will continue to write on the topic where appropriate, I plan to give a small donation as well as research ways we as a NATION can still help and get back to you.  Its not easy to help those that can’t help themselves but it takes courage to do so when no one is looking.

SHIIIIT, If oil was found in Haitian soil, Congress would have made it a fucking state, or at least a commonweath, fully equipt with their own military branch. LOL, Haiti would be the new Cancun/ Las Vegas!!!! Or mabye not, look at New Orleans, that was what, five years ago. Most Americans dont care about Haiti, because Haiti’s number one export is immigrants, impoverished ones at that.

Now dont get me wrong, I didnt “donate” a GOTdamned dime to any of these shady, make shift, overnight, pop up quick – shut down quicker, so called charities. I do have several very close friends who are Haitian. One is my brother ex wife, and other My best friend I knew since 1st grade. When the news broke about the earthquake, I called them up, made sure that the family was good, got the info on their particular status’, and let them know that if there was anything I could do to help out on their end, COUNT ME IN, without second guessing.

But if people think that Mr. Bad Guy is going to put a red cent into hand of Wyclef Jean, or these other multi million dollar charities or their multi millionaire charity organizers LOL!! You must have me confused for my cousin Mr. Gullible Guy…

There are other ways to help however. I donated my money to the Red Cross. They’re a good organization not to mention very good people. (Almost had them as a client at one point…sidenote )

I agree with you on that. If there was a organization I felt semi-comfortable with donating to the Red Cross would definitly be the one.

I think the main problem, besides people forgetting, is the internal infastructure of Haiti is soo shaky. Even if we all came together and donated, fuck it, A trillion dollars, the Red Cross can only do so much, I mean they can’t make the faulty Haitian government do anything….They can’t make a Red Cross City in Haiti and do what they want… The real remedy is to find a way to positivly influence the Haiti Government into really caring about their people rather thane exploiting them and stealing from them…

I donated to the Red Cross as well, i felt safe giving my 10 dollars to this organization… But I’m also guilty of forgetting Haiti.. I said a prayer and donated my money, i felt that was all i had to do, and that is sad… I’m considering sponsoring a kid from Haiti @ worldvision.org… $35/month… i know everyone on here can’t afford that, not bashing, but lets keep it real, times are hard…. But maybe as a whole nation we could do something… highbridnation as a whole can sponsor a few kids…maybe Juan can set it up… a donate link or something.. we all give 2 or 3 dollars a month, if you have it, to support a great cause… Great post Juan…

It won’t get any better until the neo-colonial powers allow them to help themselves. You call this a rant, this is a rant:
