‘Professor of Trill’, Bun B Discusses First Day Teaching At Rice Univ.

UGK Frontman makes history teaching Spirituality and Hip Hop at the highly respected university.

If you’re a student at the highly accredited Rice University in Texas this semester you may want to consider a new course in Religion.  Yesterday was the first day of school for students and the school’s newest Professor, Bun B. He’s making history with his new class Spirituality and Hip Hop.  He recently discussed the very serious course during a radio interview with 97.9 The Box.

During the first session Professor Freeman, as he’s requiring his students to call him, handed out the syllabus and discussed the subject they’ll be reviewing from various different sects of religious denominations.  As you might imagine the course is not traditional and with it comes nontraditional textbooks like The Hip Hop Wars, That’s the Joint, The Hip Hop Church and of course Jigga’s “Decoded“.  Something tells me this class is full.

As the Nation already should know, I’m not one for the religion, nor is Bun B on my “Hip-Hop radar”, but seeing Hip-Hop atrists segue from music into others areas especially edcuating brings gives me hope to where Hip-Hop is going… I am one of very little hope….

I was actually going to wrote about how proud it made me to see a more mature approach to how Hip Hop can influence. Hip Hop is culture. Its enriched within the fabric of society yet we so very often fail to take advantage of the wisdom it poses and the power it has. Bun B however has managed it would seem to harness that and use it do foster healthy discussion in a learning environment. Salute.

  5. Juan says:

Lets hope others will follow in his footsteps. I remember MC Hammer lecturing at Harvard….well I guess that’s a bad example.
