I don’t know how many of you heard about this or not but for those who didn’t, here’s a quick recap.  A few month’s ago 50 Cent first took to Twitter after some initial reluctance on his part.  While most of his early commentary was of the disparaging variety, yesterday the artists used it to boost his own stock portfolio.   According to the new New York Post, not me cause I wasn’t paying attention, 50  used Twitter to promote a company called H&H Imports.  The penny stock jumped 290% almost solely off the strength of his promotion demonstrating the power of the social platform and his brand.

@50 Cent : “TVG’s stock went from 5cent to 10 in one day. You can double your money right now. Just get what you can afford.”
@50 Cent : “HNHI is the stock symbol for TVG there launching 15 different products. they are no joke get in now.”
@50 Cent : “You better get in now TVG I’m never saying this again. Watch how this company blows up.”
@50 Cent :“Ok ok ok my friends just told me stop tweeting about HNHI so we can get all the money. Hahaha check it out its the real deal.

You might remember I briefly mentioned last week that 50 fell in line with the new industry fad of launching your own set of headphones and launched called Sleek by 50 Cent, an obvious but unapologetic rip of Dr. Dre’s Beats by Dr. Dre. The Headphone partnership is wit a company TV Goods who’s parent company is none other than H&H Imports stock handle “HNHI”.   By encouraging those listening to meekly “follow” like sheep as the shepherd has instructed he almost tripled his money in a few short moments with the effort equivalent to sending a few short txt messages.

No one will ever make the mistake of underestimating 50 as being less than the savvy businessman that he is however this is worthy of a standing applause if you ask me.  I’m not however sure that this is legal.  It sounds a little like that movie “Boiler Room.” In fact some have indicated that the SEC may file charges.  So 50 assuming under the advice of legal council, later tempered his previous Tweets issuing a statement

@50 Cent: “HNHI is the right investment for me it may or may not be right for u! Do ur homework.”

Many people often ask me why the Highbrid Nation slogan is “Because Knowledge is Power” when you feature Fat Back and other slackness.  This is exactly why.  Here you have a Southeast Queens Hood that’s been shot up a bunch of times, raps jokes for a living making “weigh” money off Hip Hop.  Why?  Because of his influence.  People KNOW 50 and they recognize him and thus will follow him into the river like the pied piper and his POWER is in the fact that he KNOWS that and uses it to the best of his ability.  Lost in all the hoopla is the fact that regardless of whether the stock run was legal, he’s generated incredible buzz for TV Goods, his new Headphones and thus his pockets. Smart guy.
