In Light Of Arizona Shooting Is It Time To Tone Down The Political Rhetoric?

Posted by Juan

Should Politicians dial down the violent propaganda or is asking to do so a violation of free speech?

What’s up Nation.  Hope your weekend was good.  I wanted to touch base with you all on a very topical issue.  As you all are well aware, over the weekend Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Gifford was shot in an apparent assassination attempt.  Although she remains in very critical condition, 6 by-standers including a 9-year-old were murdered and up to 20 others injured at the hands of 22 year old gunman.

What compelled this young man to do such a thing?  Fanatacism?  Mental Illness?  Domestic Terrorism?  Who knows and given our governments propensity for cover-up the story most likely will never fully be told.  But this morning while watching CNN they posed an interesting question that I thought was worth discussing.  Is it time to tone down the Political Rhetoric?

It used to be that political mudslinging was confined to the election season but now the tensions are at an all-time high all year long.  The healthcare debate is a primary example of lobby groups using violent images like crosshairs and even the more radical imagery of nooses in propaganda to illustrate their point. What has this said to our communities?  To the youth?  To the week minded and easily influenced? The way to solve health care or job loss or education is by putting our political leaders in the crosshairs?  Hanging those on the opposite side of the isle by a noose?  It all starts with the campaign tactics…is it time we put the muzzle on such practices or is this too much a violation of Free Speech?

I’m a big believer in the law of cause and effect. You drop a stone in a pond, and ripples will go out.
    .
If you spend enough time telling people that minor political squabbles are actually life-and-death battles; if you paint your political opponents as either fascists or communists hell-bent on actually destroying America, then you occasionally see people believing you.
    .
I think the situation is even more dangerous than we think. The eschatologists (those who study biblical end times) have started to openly preach that Obama is the anti-christ; and in some cases the President’s actions have played into their beliefs and fears.
    .
This guy appears on the surface to be just another crazy kid; but in an environment where the media, the clergy and the government reinforce a deluded worldview, there’s no telling where this could end.

  2. Mr. Bad Guy says:

This horrific act touches on many different things. The agenda that it speaks on the most, in my particaular opinion, is ones power to influence and how that influence may be that infamous straw to break the proverbial camels back in the mind of a certain individual, and in this case cause carnage.
    .
The power of infleuence I speak of can cross over into many differnt areas. This “lone gunman”, as the media tells it, was influenced/ brainwashed by the age of 22 by certain political/cultural/religious/ patriotic propaganda and rationalized in his head that he should be the one to change what he felt was wrong by his own hands with a pistol clutched within them.
    .
Of course this instance is the far extreme of influence, but it is starts somewhere, someone right now is putting off paying their rent to follow what their perception of what “cool” is, influenced by whatever. Or someone is planning on doing something ridiculous to their body, in my personal opinion, e.g. facial tatoos.
    .
All in all one must always be mindful of what type of influence they play on others, the life they save may be a 9 year old wanting to learn about local politics or some elses livelihood…

See but Mr. Bad Guy I tend to agree with Malcolm and I’m glad he made the point. His actions weren’t so far off from what a normal human vowing to defend himself and his family would do IF he were to actually believe and hang on every word he’s being told by political factions. So to say he was “brainwashed” or this being an “extreme case” may actually be a stretch instead his brain wasn’t capable of free will. He MAY just have been blindly following. I think we’ve got a major problem on our hands that might at this point be unstoppable but has yet to boil over but unfortunately will.

      • Mr. Bad Guy says:

I see Malcolm and I speaking on the same terms… Malcolm being more specific and I being more general…
        .
This kid, me being almost ten years his senior, has been influenced to believe that the Representative, her political followers and collegues are partaking in agendas so against his beliefs, by as Malcolm said “the media, the clergy and the government”, that the only way to effectively change it was to kill her… If someone is influenced enough, I call it a brainwashing, regardless of freewill. We all are, to one extent or another a product of and is influenced by our environment…
        .
I refer to it as a extreme case, maybe I should have said “rare case”, because people en mass don’t do what he did. Some politian pisses the average person off, the most he does is don’t vote for them again, very few publicly demonstrate, and very very very few commits a violent act towards said person.
While many people may vow to take action, very few actually do, especially in the exact same manner their words prescribe… if so their would be alot more revenge killing….. maybe..

My deepest condolences, sympathies, and prayers to everyone caught up in this nonsense. When are we going to stop believing everything is fault of the media and the government and face the reality that mental illness is real? Even the army saw how jacked up this individual was, and did not admit him. Teachers at his college admitted to being afraid of him, and were glad he dropped out. He had no friends, kids at school called him “weirdo”, and “pot head”. He spent alot of time to himself. Is all this cause to be alarmed? Not really. But, throw in the fact that his parents alledgedly knew about this plot and did nothing; now there lies the problem. THEY DID NOTHING!!! No one takes responsibilty for anything. It is always the next person’s fault. And until people realize mental illness is alive and well, there will be more, and worse scenarios than this being played out on a much bigger scale. It’s been a while Mr. Juan, and as usual, you not only missed the boat on this one, but were no where near the water. I still love you. Hope the rest of your day is Blessed!!!

    • Juan says:

Deanna didn’t expect you to ever agree with me but the love is always mutual none-the-less. Of course I will hold firm however. As the survivor of a best friend who took his own life as a product of being tortured by mental disease, voices and the like I know first hand it is real. Truth is none of the facts are known here. I just know however that even if by some off chance it ISN’T the case, the mere “excuse” of mental illness is too easy of a scapegoat to pass up. Believe it or not, mental disease is rational. It makes sense when you follow the bread crumbs of evidence. I just don’t want us to be so naive that we believe everything we’re told because it was documented after the fact. That’s ignorance.

  4. deanna hancock says:

Well, Sir, it was irrelevant before because it was not relevant UNTIL this happened. Which goes back to people seeing and believing what they want to, and refusing to take responsibility when things go horribly wrong. Case and point; why do people have to be stripped and abused, and humiliated at airports in the name of safety? Because a man knew what his son was planning, and cared enough to call the embassy, and alert homeland security to his plan, but nothing was done. But, as punishment to make themselves look good and to cover up not doing their jobs, they decided to make others suffer. It still all goes back to everyone does not have a conspiracy theory, but if they do, whose fault is it when the system fails? Thank you.

Let me say the real , AmeriKKKa is so scared thanxxx 2 media outlets who applaued this violent behavior behind close doors ratings, sells papers, sponsors, money basically of course , there will be more of these SHIT….uations 2 cum . Something as simple as a health care plan for example has been flipped n2 “If President Obama passes this Health Care plan then he will also tell u that u have no (that”s all u have to say for AmeriKKKa to be pissed) , he will take away your civil liberties , and AmeriKKKa u have the right….wing to be angry with this President”. Like a always say the Media is as powerful as any weapon of Mass Destruction. It will influence weak minded pissed KKKrackuz , yes I went there with the RACE CARD, I know I said I would try not 2 this year but hey that how shit is in AmeriKKKa .He was not KKKrazy he was not abused as a child or molested he was pissed how the world is and wanted 2 do something to get AmeriKKKa’s attention.

    Juan,
you cannt just jump on the bandwagon.
This shooting had nothing to do with politics. The guy was crazy and infatuated with Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Gifford. The man shot a little girl there is nothing political about that. He was crazy simply put. Now everyone is making it political. How about they make it about gun control? or Talk about background check on a yearly basis to revoke licenses. Please rewrite this post and post your corrections.

    • E.L.Diaz says:

What are you talking about? Rewrite post and post corrections? Read what Juan wrote again, you seemed to have missed the point. Juan asked a lot of questions. He never said this is the definite cause of that. It’s up to the readers to post our thoughts and opinions and engage in discussion. Who are you, internet police, to tell people to re-write posts and post corrections?

    • 2NA$$TEE says:

Gun KKKontrol is not political 2 u ? It is 2 most of AmriKKKa.

    • Juan says:

I rarely ever give a straight opinion on a subject and Honestly only part of the time when I do is it actually how I feel. Instead I think open debate is healthy. I think we can all learn from the views and opinions of others. I just write the post to use it as a springboard for deeper discussion. Is the shooting political? My point is who knows? Was he crazy? How do you know if he is or isn’t. You don’t have all the facts and neither do I. If we believe everything we’re being told we’re foolish.

  7. stpony says:

Better watch the Graphic you use on this post. Putting cross hairs on Mr O may get you a visit from Big Brother. If they try to regulate Political Speech, Music and other Culture outlets will follow. How many kids who may be a little crazy pick up a gun and shoot somebody because they listen to rap? We have all heard that argument before.

    • 2NA$$TEE says:

Well I have a loaded Water Gun and I just finished listening to Taylor Swift and Carrie PecKKKerwood. I am about 2 super soak sum hoez bcuz I was listening 2 KKKuntry music and it made me do it.

  8. mike pow says:

I too am sadden about the lost of life that took place in Arizona. Hearing what i heard and reading what i have read all comes down to one person with an agenda. I truely believe thats something was wrong with this guy and someone knew it.This to me is not a surprise. The attempt on the life of President Obama life is high, it’s an all time high on the threat of a President’s life. Why??? Is it a race thing? is it people thats just feed up with government? Or is it just that whats been hiding in sheep clothes finally coming out? This nation never talks about the terrorist that lives in this country. And i’m not talking about Muslims!!!!! I think about what Malcolm X said when Kennedy was killed, thats it’s chickens are comin home to roost.I have faith in God but this nation has alot and i mean alot of question that needs to be answered!!!

    • 2NA$$TEE says:

I Co Sign with u Mike Pow 4 1 thing AmeriKKKA always associates Muslims with Terrorism at least 99% of the time(Dumb Asses) . I don’t know about the rest of the HighBrid Nation but Timothy McVeigh does not in anyway sound remotely close 2 a muslim name .He was labeled crazy, pissed at the Government, any excuse the media could make up. Y is AmeriKKKa all of a sudden pissed at the Government when President Obama steps in . Nobody was mad when Nixon was in, Reagan Or Hitler Bush I and II were in office . Yes most of AmeriKKKa is Pissed bcuz there is a blackman in a place that was only thought to be 4 KKKrackuz only , now a ToKKKen is in the Outhouse I meant the White House . Yes it’s a “race thing” don’t ever get it twisted thinking it’s his policies or his views . We are r threat educated or not but really when u have the Education and Knowledge 2 beat them at their own Game. By the way Shout out 2 Johnny Cochran (RIP) who was 1 of the many that beat AmeriKKKa at their own Game. My prayers go out 2 the Families involved in the Tragedy in Arizona.By the way if this were a Blackman that KKKillled all those people or just 1 white person there would be no trial or he would have been put 2 death by now. I bet u this KKKrackka will spend his life in the Pen but will get book deals XXXclusive interviews on Larry King and Oprah etc . This KKKunt….try is so sicKKK wit it.

      • 2NA$$TEE says:
