Ludacris Bites Dr. Dre: Unveils His New Headphones at CES

Posted by Juan

Hip Hop Perpetrating? I’m not surprised but did Luda miss the boat?

@ludacris
Its 2011 and I honestly can’t step foot on a New York City street or subway without seeing someone rocking those over-sized Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.  While they’re billed by the Super-Producer to offer superior sound quality and allow its users the opportunity to listen to music the way it was intended by the artist.

With everyone downloading music in these ultra-compressed mp3-esque files from torrent sites instead of buying it, the truth is those expensive headphones aren’t going to help you hear anything you wouldn’t be able to with those white iPod earbuds.  But none the less they’re selling like hotcakes.  And like with anything else, have success selling a product and look out for the copycats.  An with this being a Hip Hop infused product, no one does it worse.

Since its launch Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z have bit…excuse me sampled.  At least Lady Gaga and Diddy had the decency to use the Beats branding to launch their own branded model.   But of course there are those that come super late to the party.  Enter Ludacris who unveiled his set yesterday at the CES tech geek conference in New York.   Dubbed the “Soul by Ludacris” (gives the side-eye… Ed Lover Come On Son Smirk) the phones follow in the Monster Cable formula and are a collabo with Signeo.

“Going up against the new Beats by Dr. Dre headphones will be tough,” says Jonathan Geller, Founder of the Boy Genius Report. “They are some of the best, accurately producing headphones on the market and merit their high price point.”

Lets see you’ve got a buck in your pocket and you have the option of buying some Beats or some of Luda’s Soulphones.  Think fast which are you gonna choose?  Exactly.

    For me Beats by Dre and the ‘b’ logo was some underground sh#t. I saw basketball players and people on the subway wearing them before I knew they were from Dre. The ‘s’ logo and Luda are coming off as biters, unless they are cheaper there won’t be much competition.
