DOING GOOD IN THE HOOD: Nas to Serve Christmas Dinners in Harlem
Despite what they (really I) may say Hip Hop does have heart.

@nas #christmas #charity
Since Santa Snoop Claus got us in the Christmas spirit, lets float with that theme. Fellow emcee, Nas is scheduled to join HIV/ AIDS specialist Maria Davis on tomorrow in Harlem to serve over 250 local families a free (Pre) Christmas dinner they might otherwise not receive. The meal which comes courtesy of Harlem’s Melba’s 125 restaurant and Kensington Publishing Corp is part of Davis’ 2nd annual Christmas Dinner initiative.
Maria Davis, author of Souls of My Sisters: Black Women Break Their Silence, Tell Their Stories and Heal Their Spirits hopes these dinners will bring holiday cheer to the underserved communities.
“This holiday season our focus is on helping the families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, and their support systems including; extended families, healthcare and case workers,” Davis said in a statement. “I am especially proud that Nas and other celebrities can participate in providing inspiration during the holidays and share a word of thanks to the caretakers who work so hard to service this population.”
As for Nas its another example that despite all that we might write and criticize that Hip Hop does have heart even if its misplaced at times or rolled in bamboo papers and smoked away. Salute!

Definitly a good look, but why not Queens Bridge?
I was thinking the same thing.
With all due respect to the sister’s efforts to make a difference in people’s lives (this is also obvious by her book), Nas’ involvement is akin to the baby daddy who wants to be a daddy only on Christmas, bringing the kids’ toys, while neglecting his duties the other 364 days of the year…he is not needed to serve this food; there are countless “no-name” volunteers, decent, “regular” people who do it all year-round. Nas has the means to fund a soup kitchen, which makes this look like a shallow publicity stunt.
What grounds do either of you have to make that assumption?
It’s all speculation, obviously. However, have you seen Nas do anything like this on any type of regular basis? It’s tokenism that screams “self-serving publicity stunt!” because of the time of year and because he’s “serving” dinner. You know, people in general do whatever the hell they want all year, rob, cheat and steal and then when it’s Thanksgiving and Christmas, they get in front of people and “it’s all about family and giving.” Bullsh*t!!!
@E.L.Diaz, Yup, it feels like there is a payoff somewhere, either with publicity or a check.
