Keri Hilson’s Sexully Controversial Music Video: ‘The Way You Love Me’

Keri Hilson has been in hot water recently after the release of her new viral music video “The Way You Love Me.” Critics say the lyrics are just not becoming an artist of her caliber and class. Its unusual to see an R&B artists lyrics require a parental guidance warning but with lines like “Fuck me, fuck me” and “I got the kinda pussy that’ll keep you out the streets,” clearly its necessary. But are her seductive dance moves enough to distract you from the equally explicit lyrics?
Hilson says its just an honest expression of her sexuality.
“I’m just saying what women really think and feel and if I’m gonna be honest about myself, I have to show that side of myself,” Hilson told Hot 97?s Angie Martinez. “Look, sometimes, this is what we want. If I’m in a room and I’m writing from a girl’s perspective, I may be a small percentage of a freak, but I am a freak! There’s a time to be that. If you’re being real with yourself – I’m not talking about giving it to everybody – I’m in a relationship and I’m saying look, tonight, I don’t want to caress. I want you to f- me tonight!”
But Hilson says she’s getting love from woman who feel empowered by the song as well.
“Even though it’s gotten crazy, crazy, crazy bad reviews, it’s also gotten some great reviews from women who respect it and women who did feel empowered by it,” she explained to Martinez. “So that, to me, overshadowed the ones that didn’t understand it. I feel good.”
Personally, I’m ok with it. Its not worse than much else you see on TV right now visually and clearly its not going to play on BET. If Keri thinks this is how she wants to portray herself publicly, I can criticize her but she’d still be free to do as she pleases. I don’t give it or her enough thought to be honest. To be righteous for a second if I might, I think that society has necessitated female artist play the sex card up heavy so I’ve unfortunately almost become completely desensitized to any artist regardless of their history who might surprise us with a song like this. At the end of the day she’s got an album “No Boys Allowed” dropping in about a week and hell I wouldn’t be talking about it unless she talked about her “pussy” first right?
Keri Hilson is basically my ideal of a female. I know no one is surprised to hear me say that. I have no problems with the lyrics/video. I love it, love watching it, love hearing it. Although, from a Record Company point of view, this is a song that would NEVER get released as a single or be made into a video. At least not back in the day when BET and MTV really mattered, but with videos being seen more on the internet, I think we will continue to see this.

I liked it and what she said was real. The headline of whether the dance moves or song was suggestive is null and void because she comes right out and say it. No wonder she released it virually-I am sure it wont get play on MTV or BET unless they revamp the whole deal.
Ppl need to chill out. I liked it a lot and she had some of my fav artists in it.
The first minute of the video is F@cking CORNY….. I’ll let you know about what I feel about the rest of it in about five more minutes….

It’s a rat race out there. People will do anything to get attention these days when record sales are down overall. I think every female artist goes through a over sexed faze even though at first it’s always ‘about the music’. I can name about a dozen right now.
I would love to test this, “keep you off the streets” theory though.

You see where i’m going? How many times have we told a female rathers she your friend or wife,or how many times have they told you that they want to be F–ked? I know that this song won’t be played on BET or MTV, but i’m cool with it and i love the video.

I actually thought her video for “Energy” was hotter. This song is wack and the video doesn’t help. All in all, it’s not worthy of all the controversy. There’s been worst out. I have her last album, and she’s more talented then this song and video portrays.

I think NO BOYS ALLOWED is a very good R&N/Pop album… Keri Hilson did great I hope she shoot her song LOSE CONTROL (LET ME DOWN) it’s great… and her voice is strong than ever, she proved that she’s more than the Lyrics-Girl who keeps on writing for other artist, I think Britney Spears we feel that, I was watching Keri since she appeared in 2007, so leave this criticize away and go criticize GaGa she’s the one filthy 24/7 and with out Turning any one On…
