BACK FROM BOLIVIA: Mike Tyson Gets Boxing Hall Of Fame Nod

Posted by Juan

Lets take a trip down the bizarre memory lane.

@miketyson #halloffame
Say what you want about Mike Tyson, the man was one of the most feared boxers in the sport’s history PERIOD.  His fights were must see events and almost single-handedly created the institution of “pay-per-view”  It was for his legendary work in the ring that Tyson was selected Tuesday for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum.

Tyson now 44, finished his career with a record of  50-6-0-2, 44 of those wins by way of knockout. He was youngest boxer to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles at the same time and the only heavyweight to unify those titles individually.  He of course did all this before infamously losing those titles to Buster Douglas the 1990 upset, still considered the greatest in all of sports.  He would never regain the respect or form that personified his metoric rise. Here are some of the highlights and entertaining lowlights from Mike’s career.

Tyson dismantles Michael Spinks

Iron Mike destroys Lou Savarese

Mike Gets Frank Bruno

Tyson Folds Clifford Etienne like a envelope (My Favorite)

Mike Tyson’s Bizzare Interview before Frank Botha Fight

Tyson jumps the gun. Starts the Lenox Lewis Fight a little early. “I’ll F*ck You ‘Till You Love Me”

Mike Tyson Tells Jim Gray he vows to eat offspring

Instead of children, Mike Eats Evander Holyfield’s ear.  Hungry Guy.

Three-division champion Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico and Russian-born Kostya Tszyu, a junior welterweight champion, also were selected, along with Mexican trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain, referee Joe Cortez, and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone.

  1. Mr. Bad Guy says:

My stlye is impetuous, my defenses impregnable and I’m just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!!
    .
    CLASSIC!!!!
    .
Let it be known, Mike Tyson was probably on hardcore drugs during many, if not all, his spaz out moments.
    .
Still he’s one of the best that ever stepped in to a ring, BROOKLYN’S OWN Iron Mike.

  2. E.L.Diaz says:

Mike was not only a puncher, he was a great boxer early in his career. He was right when he said that his “defense is impregnable” LOL. They couldn’t hit him, he would come in bobbing and weaving and throwing elbows (that’s old school right there, boxers can’t do that anymore)…and he had that devastating left hook (coming from that low center of gravity), the guy was on his way down when the overhand right hit him upside his head…Mike was Vicious and he understood and respected his craft…of course, his life unraveled…what a shame…He is definitely HOF.

IRON MIKE TYSON was of my era of boxing the “Hip Hop generation” as they call us. I remember Ali who is still the greastest 2 me plus his political stance made him even better 2 me, than Mike . Yet Mike I can relate 2 more single parent, living in a poor environment etc.I have been a fan since he came on the scene . When he was with Cus and had everything set as in managers Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton and Kevin Rooney his trainer he had the making to beat Rocky M’s record of 50-0. Mike was knocking fools out not in a normal way I am talking bodily functions shifting, chest caving in, get’n put in a coma from his hits 20 yrs young and a Heavyw8 champ that’s crazy, the pressure that guy must have been under. He lost sight of the big picture and Robin Givens did not help matters either. Then Don King the Suge Knight of Boxing got at him then the rape conviction. Iron Mike is 2 blame 4 some or most of his SHIT…..uations YET WE cheered 4 him, I sure did . I still enjoy watching him in the ring and the interviews(YouTube) are the craziest from any1 in sports. If u have not seen the Documentary on Mike Tyson that came out last year get that shit. It is everything about a black male in 90 mins Drama, sadness, happiness, conflictions, humor, redemption all in 1 dvd . I am so happy 4 Mr.Mike Tyson he is the best in the last 25 yrs and we will never c another 1 like Mike again.Ur no “Alexander the Conquerer” I am !! “I want 2 eat his children”!! All praises due to, well u know the rest. Brooklyn’s finest and Boxing’s best. Iron Mike Tyson.

    • Juan says:

We unfortunately made Mike that monster. He should have never stepping in the ring in front of the cameras. Boxing was his outlet, his therapy but when he got famous for doing so it only had the opposite effect. Robin Givins played the blood sucking role she’s so appropriately type casted for in Boomerang and The Game. She made him “Sideshow Mike” and we killed him.

  4. 2NA$$TEE says:

By the way Y is Sly in the Boxing Hall of Fame? Is Mike getting an Oscar soon 4 Hangover? Not so much and if that’s the case then we need Apollo Creed and Clubber Lang aka MR.T in the HOF as well.It was just a movie, a fictional Walt Disney flick. Yes I am talking about the Rocky flicks. I love Rocky III tho Mr.T almost peeled Adrian from Sly in that 1 classic shit.Fuck the Eye of the Tiger Mr.T hit him in his Eye of the Tiger.

    • Juan says:

As crazy as it sounds Sly did as much for boxing as perhaps Mike did. He made it sexy for middle American. Poor white boys weren’t thinking about boxing before Rocky. Hell they even errected an actual statue in Philly after that movie. HOF worthy? Maybe the movie, not Sly.

      • Dale says:

Poor Little white boys werent thinking of boxing before the Rocky movie ? Do you know anything about Boxing or its History ? lmao. Hmmmm Well who was John Sullivan and James Corbett ? White Boxers from the 1890′s. Also What about James Braddock 1928 ? Very poor white boy that fought his heart out to put food on the table for his wife and kids ! Then we have Rocky Marciano from the 50′s era. The movie Rocky was filmed in 1976 so get your facts straight ! Why must people like you always put race into the equation ? Its pathetic and you should never talk out your ass without having your Boxing FACTS straight ! Just saying…. Now does Sly belong in The Hall of Fame ? My Opinion NO but thats just an Opinion the BHOF thought he did and well thats what matters as he was Inducted ! He met the Criteria and was hand selected from around the world judges so Opinions dont matter ! However research on poor little white boxers as there were many far before the Rocky movie.

  5. auchamp22 says:

I never seen someone get angry after victories… i always felt like Mike got upset that his opponents couldn’t stand up to him…its like he was saying ” nigga really 2 minutes, you got me worked up for a 2 minute fight” smh… Iron Mike HOF

  6. skinnygirluver says:

For a generation of people Mike Tyson is Boxing. That’s HOF, no doubt. I’m with you on that Juan, I don’t know about Sly himself but the movie series Rocky needs to be inducted into the HOF. The movies did a lot for boxing.

  7. lazarus says:

Iron Mike deserves it, knocked out many a man made me miss a lot of those fights to going to make some popcorn. Who knew back then? lol Those rocky movies also got a lot of white boys hurt too. lmao
