HIGHBRID NATION REMEMBERS: Leslie Nielsen
The King of Spoofs
Ordinarily Highbrid Nation wouldn’t recognize the passing of an 84 year old white guy but Leslie Nielsen was an exception. Yesterday the legendary funny man, died after a bout with pneumonia near his home in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
For me Neilsen was a symbol of my childhood. It was his movie Airplane! that can be credited with giving me my first glance at on screen naked breast a memorable event for an elementary school kid. In addition to his Airplane! series, Nielsen played Frank Drebbin in gutbusting The Naked Gun movies. Bottom line is dude was funny enough to cross all racial and age boundries. His deadpan humor has paved the way for pictures like Borat. Nielsen appeared in over 100 films and 1,500 television programs over the span of his career, portraying over 220 characters – an incredible feat. Leslie Nielsen is dead at the age of 84.
I loved Airplane as well as some of the Naked Gun series… He was a great comedic actor.. RIP

Leslie had that classic oblivious to everything… He was good… RIP
One of the best things to come out of Canada, and that’s saying a lot! He was great in the final season of Golden Girls, too. Comedy doesn’t get the critical praise it deserves in film or music. His comedic work on TV and film has cheered up probably hundreds of millions of people over the years. That is a good legacy.
RIP Leslie. His deadpan comedy will be missed.
