SOUND OFF: Will Jay-Z Signing Jay Electronica Water Down The Game’s Best Kept Secret?

Posted by Juan

Will Jay Electronica fall victim to Mainstream complacency now that he’s got a major deal?

Over the weekend, in what amounted to the biggest news of the week, Jay-Z officially announced the signing of his newest artist to the Roc Nation imprint, Jay Electronica.  He’s been on the underground radar for years and really only first made mainstream headlines as the 19th baby daddy to Erica Badu.

But for the heads that know his music they know the kid’s not only got skills but a lot of passion and fire for his music.  But some might argue that his signing to Jay-Z’s label might stifle his career.  Jay-Z while an excellent business man and an immortal artist, like Jordan hasn’t been able to do much in the front office seat.  So there is a concern among many that Electronic may fall victim to the mainstream politics or cause his music to be watered down due to complacency.  SOUND OFF:  Do you think the signing will water down the Game’s Best Kept Secret?

Brother Juan, you read my mind! With that said im sure that Mr. Carter by now has accepted his horrible “effort” while running Def Jam. All he did was sign artist who already was “major” in their fields; Rihanna, Kanye, Ne-Yo, Fab, Kiss, etc., you get my drift. With that said, I dont think he will make that mistake twice. I’ll will say he’s a much wiser man now and days with his promotion skills outside of himself. He basically gave the 2 young J’s the stamp of approval for music consumers who only listen to the “radio”, MTV Jams, and that jive 106&Park. Jigga know these brothers are SERIOUS about HIPHOP and will let them continue to do what they been doing without trying to changed for mainstream media. I’ll admit, Jay Elect did look odd with that suit on this weekend. Anywho, what I really secretly think Jigga is doing is forming a team to destroy this overhyped, everybody writing everybodys flow, no substance having, YOUNGMONEYCASHMONEY movement, just a thought. Jay Electronica is an “old head” from Magnolia Projects that probably has a few words for those New Orleans Millionaires that cant seem to go away. Alright, im finish…!?! lol

Jay Electronica is a problem. I almost NEVER give out cudos and I know the kid packs a punch. I think his signing of the Will/ Jada kid will be a cash cow because these little kids are already going crazy for that “whip my hair” single. He’s off to a good start. I just hope he doesn’t do what 50 Cent did to MOP, Mobb Deep……..

I think it will be interesting how Jay-z handles Jay Electronica, he already has a big underground following, i think he should come up with a single, but not your typical mainstream hit, something that will keep Jay E old fans happy and something to bring a whole new audience to this lyrical monster…
