HIGHBRID NATION REMEMBERS: Jam Master Jay

Posted by Juan

8 Years Since that Fateful Night in Queens

#JasonMizell #JamMasterJay
Believe it or not tomorrow (Saturday) marks eight year since Jason Mizell better known to us as Jam Master Jay was murdered while working in his recording studio in the hometown he made famous…Hollis, Queens.  Like all of the Hip Hop murders, his remains a mystery and many theories have abounded about exactly what happened that fateful night.  However, instead of focusing on his death lets remember him for the way he lived.  Without Jay, there probably would have been no Run DMC, Russell Simmons wouldn’t be where he is hence no Def Jam, Adidas might have gone bankrupt, he made Mr. Cee who made B.I.G. and lets not forget his integral role in putting 50 Cent out there.   Most importantly he made DJing not just the dude in the background but an instrument unto his own.

Jay’s son, Jason Mizell Jr. recently shared his thoughts on his father’s legacy and how he has inspired his own aspirations on NBC one of the few channels I CAN watch in New York.  (Cablevision get your shit together.)  I digress.

I always used to wonder who came up with Run-D.M.C.’s outfits(black hats & leather jackets). I heard on TV after he died that it was Jam Master Jay, I heard that he used to dress like that around highschool or something. Jam Master Jay was also one of the best DJs ever in my opinion. I will always remember Run-D.M.C.’s intro scratch that he’d do whenever they were about to come out onto the stage. R.I.P. Jam Master Jay. PEACE!!!

Hip Hop would be nowhere with out RUN-DMC and Jam Master Jay . He was the band and RUN and D were the vocalist. His style of dress was the signature piece 4 the Kings from Queens. I remember the 1st time I heard Hard Times and it’s like that, as well as Sucker MC’s . The jam that just did it 4 me was “Rock Box” with the hard beat and the guitar riff amazing . He was 1 of the 1st DJ’s that had their own songs . Jam Master Jay , Jam Master Jammin, Peter Piper etc. classic shit. I just h8 there will be no reunion ever . I really appreciate what RUN DMC HAS DONE 4 HIP HOP and popular music in general. Jay’s murder will never be solved he is just 1 of the many who have fallin 2 the hands of h8rz Lennon Shakur Wallace Soulja Slim Mizell. J-A-Y r the letters of his name. RUN-DMC 4 LIFE

  5. 2NA$$TEE says:

The Raising Hell Tour back in 1986 one of the best tours ever. RUN-DMC AND JAM MASTER JAY.

  6. E.L.Diaz says:

In 1983, I remember wiring up a milk crate on the 154th St/Broadway (Harlem) cemetery gate and playing crate ball all afternoon, while blasting “Sucka MCs” when it first came out, from my boombox…Can anyone relate?
I’m Old School Hip Hop, Juan.
