Since 2008, Hip Hop has bragged about its “importance” in the push to get Barack Obama elected to Presidential office.  That case has been clearly overstated in my mind and because of it I’ve always downplayed our importance as being nothing more than a small sector of a percentage of the young voters who came out in force on election day.

However, maybe I was wrong.  In a move that would indicated the contrary, the New York Post (which isn’t very credible I might add) is reporting that Jay-Z may replace National Economic Council Director, Larry Summers for President Obama’s 2012 campaign push.  This isn’t an honorary position this is some real deal political job opportunity for Hov if in fact the rumor grows legs.

“I can’t believe you’ve finally heard the chatter about him replacing Larry Summers,” Deputy White House Press Secretary William Burton told us. “In all seriousness, keep in mind he was pretty active during the 2008 election, so I don’t think it’d surprise anyone that he would be involved again. But it’s a little premature.”

I’d tend to agree about it being early.  Obama would have to do something pretty significant in the second half of his first term with an even less sympathetic congress to even consider re-election.  I think however appointing Jay-Z to any official position would be a little irresponsible given his image.  The GOP and Tea Party would rip that selection to shreads.  Given the Obama Administration’s history of having a stringent vetting process I’d doubt this would ever really become a serious consideration but stranger things have happened….Hell Sarah Palin ran for Vice President right?
