SOUND OFF: Are You Going to ‘Rock The Vote’ This November?

Posted by Juan

Despite the absence of the “big names” is this election just as important to you as 2008?

Believe or not the 2008 election wasn’t just historic because Barack Obama, a black man was elected to office but also for the first time in history the YOUTH vote (which actually is a misnomer) came out in droves to support their candidates.  Now while the Republicans might not have been too enthused about it because it at least in part lead to the demise of the Sarah Palin/ “Who was that other guy” ticket, it did however show that the voice of young voters is important.

But now as we head in to the midterm elections there is no Obama on the balot and yet its is because of him and the detest he’s created among conservatives, giving rise to the anti-socialist “Tea Party” that many Democrats are fighting for their jobs.  Once again they’re trying to energize younger voters (which really is the 20 somethings and maybe early 30 somethings like me) to get out and vote……again.

You might have seen this new campaign called “Vote Again 2010″ which is designed to get these voters back to the polls.  I guess since Jay-Z was so supportive of the Obama movement they figured he’d do just fine as the “Pied Piper” of this year’s incarnation.  (See the promo above)

But we really don’t know what’s going to happen.  If you listen to Malcolm (which we probably should, he’s a pretty smart cat) Democrats are going to take a beating, especially in Congress.  History dictates it.  But without a pre-election groundswell or buzz from young voters, many believe they won’t show up because of voter fatigue, disinterest, they’re uninformed about the candidates or perhaps more important an issue, they’re disenfranchised about the economy and lack of change Obama promised.  This plays into the Republicans and Tea Party’s hands just fine.

So while I know I WILL be at the polls in November if for nothing else because my ancestors died for my right to do so, I wanted to know where you will be.  SOUND OFF: Are excited about this year’s elections and are you going to “Rock The Vote” this November?

    Vote or die!

  2. Malcolm says:

I’ll vote, because I always vote. But there isn’t the same energy as there was in 2008.
    .
But, as expected (and as I warned many months ago), both parties have packed a handful of state ballot measures as a method of getting their base to the polls.
    .
Colorado – life begins at conception (anti-abortion)
    .
Arizona – banning racial and gender preferences in state hiring
    .
    California – legalize pot.
    .
Oklahoma – bans Sharia law when making court rulings (stir up anti-Muslim vote)

  3. Mr. Bad Guy says:

Hell Yeah, I’m going to vote in November, because if I don’t P. Diddy is going to kill me…
    .
I dont think there will ever be a election as big as in 2008. Unless, there is a noteworthy/ popular African American Woman or Hispanic presidential candidate on the ballot.
    .
I dont even think that President Obama’s re-election 2012 turnout is going to be that big, for people easily forget, and as BB King states, The Thrill is Gone. The novelty of his presence has greatly diminished. I’m still riding with him though, mainly due to all his promised accomplishments, but I alone am not America, nor am I as influencial as P.Diddy or Jay-Z. But I will attempt to be …. Right Now!!!!
    .
GET OUT AND VOTE THIS NOVEMBER!!!!!
Or P.Diddy is going to KILL YOU!!!!!

  4. satchelpaige says:

  5. skinnygirluver says:

I am voting, I always vote. I guess I am afraid that Puffy is going to kill me.
The Rent is Too Damn High Party!!! I think this is an exciting time of “politics” for our country. We need more citizens in politics and not just career politicians.

    • Juan says:

I think citizens going into politics makes career politicians which equals curruption. What you didn’t watch the Wire. Look at Mayor Carcetti.

  6. auchamp22 says:

gotta do your part…. can’t complain about shit if you don’t….
