Ok look. In order for us to be like the family we’re supposed to be as a Nation I’m going to need for us all to be honest with each other.  That’s my disclaimer for this post hahaha.  I think we’ve grown up in an age of technological advancement that has given us the freedom to obviously explore the world unlike our parents ever were able to.  At the same time we haven’t ever completely understood the limits of such advancements and how said technology can work to our detriment.

We’ve seen laptop thiefs caught simply by the owner remotely turning on the camera phone to identify the offender, I hope by now you know not to drive too fast and use your E- Zpass because the authorities have already calculated the time it SHOULD take you to reach consecutive toll booths if traveling below the speed limit.  And we’ve seen multiple celebrities caught on tape and cell phone pictures in compromising positions.

The latest such athlete being Brett Farve.  If you’ve been living under a rock, the Vikings quarterback has been the latest to be caught up in a Tiger Woods-esq scandal.  Favre ALLEGEDLY sent sexually explicit photos via text, may have used MySpace (OF ALL TOOLS) and sent a series of voicemail messages to try and smash a former New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger. Favre is of course a married man of 14 years to a wife Deanna Farve whose battled breast cancer and Brett’s former pain pill addiction.

Doesn’t it seem like these incidents are happening far more frequently?  Everyone from politicians, actors and athletes are no longer just being covered based on their profession but also their personal lives which has given rise to celebrity socialites who are otherwise unemployed famous people.  While these famous folks previously hid their private indiscretions behind squeaky clean images, technology and advanced record keeping has exposed many of these people for being…well NORMAL.

But before we are quick to point fingers and place judgment, we need to realize that we’re creating a world where there are no more role models.  No one to look up to any longer.  That’s a very depressing disposition.  At the same time, lets be honest here. Who hasn’t sent a flirtatious text message despite being in the confines of a relationship or sent a shorty a compromising picture?  Let he who is perfect cast the first stone.  At the risk of being struck by lightning I’ll refrain.

I know I’m not perfect and too have fallen victim to the temptations of using technology as a tool of flirtation…its too easy and too cool.  But as we’ve learned you never know when you might become famous and all those skeletons in your inbox become a liability.  Cuidado!
