A South African community group is petitioning for 50 Cent to accept the role of “godfather” to a rhinoceros.  Why you’re asking?

Meet Phila a rhino who survived not one but TWO poaching attack and like her would-be Godfather, 50 Cent was shot nine times.  The ironic similarities are causing the anti-poaching policing group eBlockwatch to petition for the artist to adopt the animal in the same vane as those  “save the children” programs you see on infomericals.

“We want to ask him if he wants to become the godfather of our rhino so that he can create awareness worldwide about rhino poaching,” said Andre Snyman of eBlockwatch told South Africa’s The Sunday Times.

Phila was shot twice in July but survived. To protect the rhino, her owner then cut off her horn to try to protect her, but three weeks later poachers returned, shot her seven times, and unsuccessfully tried to hack out the stub.   Rhino poaching has doubled this year in South Africa, with 227 slaughtered so far compared to 122 in all of last year. The sharp increase is due to an increas in demand for rhino horns in China and Vietnam, where it is used for medicinal purposes.

If 50 agrees to the odd request it could generate the awareness and thus funds to combat the poaching problem.  Snyman has even proposed that Phila be renamed One Pound to play on her weight in comparison to 50 Cent.

If you ask me they kind of backing 50 in a corner.  If he declines he looks like the bad guy but he’s used to that.
