SOUND OFF: Is the ‘TEA PARTY’ Going To Be A Factor?
As November’s midterm elections fast approaches can the Tea Party sway enough votes

If you’re not aware of the Tea Party movement you haven’t been paying enough attention to politics. However, if you’re not completely sure what exactly they’re all about you’re not alone. The Tea Party is not a political party, at least not yet. They’re a a right wing political movement that was spawned from a series of protest of the election of President Obama and the lackluster opposition by the Republican party.
Those of you who passed history in middle school know the name “Tea Party” is a reference to the Boston Tea Party of 1773 which at that time was a protest by colonists against laws imposed by the mothership that was England. At that time the beef was the British rule’s attempt to establish a tax on tea.
Much like their namesake, the Tea Party’s central beefs surround the Federal Government’s handling of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and a series of health care reform bills.
The movement been accused of being to radical and lacking a central leadership but has gained momentum behind its platform of cutting back the size of government, lowering taxes, spending, the national debt and federal budget deficit.
As the movement gains momentum they’re starting to influence elections around the country and as the November midterm elections fast approach Democrats and Republicans alike brace for impact. But what do you think? Do you think that the Tea Party is credible? Do they stand a chance of survival? Are they only a power as long as the Democrats are in power? Do you feel the Republicans can obsorb some of they’re momentum or are they too radical? SOUND OFF!

Historically speaking, the party in power always gets spanked in the mid-term elections. So, history says that in November the Dems are going to suffer.

But when this happens, the commentators won’t blame history, they’re going to blame it on the ‘success’ of the tea party.

The truth is: they really don’t have the votes to have much of an effect in the general elections; certainly not in national elections. Take Ron Paul as an example. The man was able to raise $3 million in 24-hours; but that didn’t do him a lot of good in the 2008 election because he didn’t have the votes to back it up.

The only way they can turn themselves into a viable party is if someone starts a ‘tea party democrat’ movement. Then, they can suck the middle away from both the dems and repubs . However: the squeaky wheel gets the oil, so despite their small numbers they are still driving the pre-election news cycles.

One important note: the common ‘wisdom’ is that the tea party was an organic event; that it just came out of nowhere based on the public outcry over spending. This is not true. The fact is: the tea party was a well planned, well orchestrated bit of political theater; designed and executed by the same people who started the swift boat movement against Kerry.

It’s too late to see it now (since time has allowed some people to forget and others to cover their tracks), but it didn’t go unnoticed by me that when the tea party ‘started’ (supposedly in response to a live rant by Rick Santelli on CNBC), the web sites that ‘popped up’ had been registered months before; and directly tied to the swift boat crowd.
How do you keep up with such things Malcolm. I guess its your passion huh? Its interesting that you note that the only way that the Tea Party could have legs is if they antagonize the Left enough that they develop their own extremist which might chip away at the Democratic votes.

No, I’m not suggesting a competing democratic tea party; I’m saying that if the tea party were to stick to the basics (less spending, fair tax laws), they could create a third party by stealing the moderate vote from the dems and the repubs.

As crazy as some of the tea baggers are, it is essentially a libertarian movement; and that sort of a movement could get supporters from both sides.

Right now, both parties are out of control, and it is a real opportunity for a moderate third party. A return to sanity, as Jon Stewart has suggested.

As far as how I keep up with it: I keep CNBC on in the office. I saw the original rant. And then, when the tea party web site ‘appeared’, I did a quick ‘whois’ on the site to trace who owned it and when it was started. Remember, as far as I’m concerned, nothing just happens.

The Tea Party is just people who don’t believe in spend, spend, spend. Calling them a bunch of crazies and racist just makes peeps look like fools. Of course there are racist in every organization but they are few and far between for the most part in the Tea party, as they arwe in most political groups that rise and fall before elections. The fire under the tea party is about taxes and government control, not what color the President is or where he was born. If people would look into the tea party themselves instead of relying on MSNBC and other liberal based news they would realize this. The Tea party is more worried about the self proclaimed communist and socialist that surround the President and those that control Congress and the Senate. The tea party has it’s origins in the 2008 Ron Paul Presidential campaign. Paul was running on a plat form that said “stop running around the world invading countries, and stop spending more money than we have”.

Even though Paul won almost every party popularity poll, the republican establishment barred him from debates, speeches, etc. It created a small group of supporters (like me) who came to believe that the republican party was just as corrupt as the democratic party.

The tea party started as those republicans breaking away from the party. Since we came from the republicans, we still had the same general political beliefs, but with an almost radical libertarian economic position.
By the way u commented on the Pee Party being worried about communist.That what they used 2 call Martin Luther King,Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party . I do admire them locc’n up on an issue they are passionate about. When KKKrackuz R pissed u see the end results .Y can’t we do the same?
