SOUND OFF: What Should Green Bay’s Nick Collins Done about Racist Heckling Fan?
The No Fun League (NFL) is investigating the incident and a punishment is expected soon but should there be one?

#nickcollins #racism @NFL
There’s no secret that Green Bay has never been an easy place for opposing players to play. A few years ago Patriots’ wideout Randy Moss suggestively mooned fans during a touchdown celebration mocking a practice regularly used by belligerent drunk fans in the parking lot as visitors enter the stadium. However as Packer’s safety Nick Collins learned this past Monday Night Bears fans at Soldier Field can be just as bad and quite racist as well.
Milwaukee’s WITI-TV aired video of Collins yelling at a fan while walking into the tunnel. He then appears to throw his mouthpiece into the stands. On Tuesday he apologized for confronting a fan who hurled a racial slur and spit on him after their loss on Monday night against the Chicago Bears.
“This is a situation that I could have walked away from but, you know, heat of the moment,” Collins said. “Things happen. Both sides (were) out of line.”
Now the NFL is looking at the incident and coming off last week where Giants bum, Brandon Jacobs helmet “somehow” landed in the stands, Collins likely will pay the piper. But how fair is that? If a player is being berated by a fan whose obviously out-of-order shouldn’t he be allowed to respond? Or do you think as an NFL player its your responsibility to resist such temptation? SOUND OFF: What Should Green Bay’s Nick Collins should have done about the racist heckler? Does he deserve punishment in your opinion?
Here’s what the ESPN analyst had to say.

He should have ignored him.
Exactly! he needed to realize where he was: at his job! I really don’t care about him being angry or whatever. That is not an excuse for a grown man to lose his temper like that. Over being called a name, by a stranger! What if he could have gotten at the guy? He would have beaten him up and things would have been much worse. Grow up!
i disagree… you can’t say what you would do in that situation…. that field is war, he was still pissed after losing the game, and someone calls you a nigger or whatever… i’d prolly blow my top as well… bears vs packers thats pure hate…
Go Cowboys!!!!!!!! yall boys get healthy this bye week
He’s a professional athlete, the key word being professional. i mean if a cop were to react in a similar fashion to the way in which Collins reacted, they would probably be fired. He should’ve ignored the fan as the difference between the two of them is that he is getting paid a lot of money and the fan is most likely worthless.
I acknowledge that there is no place in any sport for racism and the fan was behaving in an extremely unacceptable manner and i hope they find out who he is and ban him for life, but Collins’ reaction was also unacceptable and he should be fined.
CJ 1st of all No K.K.Kop will ever get fired when it comes 2 dealing with “US” maybe leave with pay and all the Dounuts they can eat, a parade, and an endorsement by the Klan, and I aint talking Wu Tang either. No he shouldn’t Ron Artest his ass but by that same token . The fans should be fined and banned when coming out of pocket like that.Plus the Bears have a African American couch . Did the fan of Chicago Bears know this?
yeah a white cop wouldn’t face any charges, but a black cop would, and i completely agree with you that the bears fan is probably mentally retarded
yo the civil side of me was like yeah its rick james fan so i should let this shit ride…yeah i actually went there. but the ghetto side of me was like yo stump this mutha fukka right here. — charlie murphy
I have mixed feelings about situations like this. On one hand professional athlete have a responsibility to act “professionally” when antagonistic circumstances arise. On the other hand, no man should feel that he can let whatever he wants come out of his mouth without having to consider the repercussions that may follow. Would the fan have acted out in the same fashion without the benefit of having distance and security to keep him safe? I doubt it.I have always had a special hate for “situational tough-guys”. You know the type that only get tough when everything is in their favor; physical size, number of people backing him up, a weapon, etc. You know kinda like how a cop acts when back-up arrives.
Ok, first of all….SMASH!! That Fox 6 reporter can get it.
On to the topic at hand, I would think it would be easy to ignore any comments when the person isn’t in your face and is about 10 feet in the stands away from you. He should’ve just walked away. I still hope he doesn’t get fined. It’s just one of those situations you gotta let slide.
It was probably the spit more than the name. Spit is degrading in so many ways. You would be hard pressed to not have me say something back. If the player is punished the fan should be banned from the stadium. a $10k fine, the fan should be banned for a period equalling $10k in ticket prices.
I ain’t gonna even address what he should have done. We have a responsibility as fans and they have responsibilities has players. I will say that it was a mouth piece that he threw and that’s harmless. I will say though that based on both sides responsibilities if the investigation tells that he was out of line I’d be mad as hell that he has to “pay the piper” and nothing is done to that fan!!! Those guys go out there and provide us some entertainment and either stadium security or we as fans should step up when someone is being totally racist and spitting on a player. It’s sad on a lot of levels that situation happened and is talked about…
I think he deserves some type of punishment for his actions. I got a city job and deal with all types of shit with people at work that make me want to bust some heads, but I know if I lose my cool and go postal that I’ll also lose my job, my pension, and won’t be able to feed my kids. These athletes don’t have that fear and feel they can go into the stands and do whatever they want cuz they won’t be severly bereprimanded for it. I’m not condoning the actions of the heckler, but it comes with the job, and the athlete, as the employee, needs to be the bigger person
