Over the past two weeks I definately spent more time blogging about Islam than I think I’ve ever spent talking or thinking about the religion in my entire life. The whole In-Close-Proximity-to-Ground Zero Mosque/ Cultural Center fiasco has just about run its course and we’re still not at a resolution. Now it seems opponents have dug far enough and uncovered some tax evasion and checkered past in developer, Sharif El-Gamal’s past.
As to be expected conservatives has somehow tried to hang the President by somehow connecting any decision or lack there of to his administration. The buzz surrounding the development has once again brought again silly rhetoric suggesting that somehow President Obama is a closet Muslim.
A poll released earlier this month by the Pew Research Center (which is not located near Ground Zero) CLAIMS one in five people, or 18 percent, said they thought Obama was Muslim, up from the 11 percent in March 2009. 34 percent of respondents were actually sane and identified the President as a Christian which was down from 48 percent in March of last year. I’m not sure if this means people are changing their minds or believe that Obama converted, maybe its just an indicator of the mental health crisis in this country who knows. I’ll be really confused if the numbers decrease next month.
Isn’t this the same President that these same critics were trying to align with his former pastor (indicating Christianity) the controversial Rev. Wright during his presidential campaign? So he was Muslim but went to church on Sundays. Man this guy is pretty religious huh? Maybe he studies Judaism as well in all that free time they give Presidents.
My natural response to all this is SO WHAT?! What if the President was a Muslim. While I doubt he would have gotten elected, many believed that a BLACK man couldn’t be a good candidate let alone win the Presidency just 2 years ago. I think we already proved that Race, Gender, Sexuality or Creed really doesn’t have a bearing on a person’s ability to be effective but given our personal prejudices it may effect our ability to be objective. With that said, SOUND OFF: If Obama WAS a Muslim, would you have voted for him as President.

When you look at it as a whole, as long as a candidate is open and honest about their beliefs in the beginning, and is not simply trying to appease audiences for their votes (i.e being hypocritical), then their merit for the position that they are seeking ought to be the deciding factor. It shouldn’t have anything to do with race nor religion, but alas, it is the person in general, their ability to get the job done…point blank. I find your question ironic, it’d be like me asking should a mother let Mary Kay Letourneau teach her kids? Anyhow, so yes, I would have still voted for Obama.
Religion doesn’t matter. I don’t seen Michelle wearing the hijab. So what. Yes. Why can’t a muslim lead this country?
Honestly, nothing has changed since this guy became president. Besides the president being black, the country is still screwed up. There needs to be numerous changes and a leader who will do what is right for growth instead of listening to the nay sayers and bitching public. the American population is going to complain because the majority of them believe that they are owed something because they were born american.

Not a manchurian candidate, more like a realistic leader. Too many leaders lean to one side or another, that is why congress was born. But what is the point of either congress or a president (single leader) if one cannot do without the other. I say make a panel of mutually intelligent individuals and handle the issues like logical individuals. Damn this left wing right wing shit.
If you are interested in having one person in power, this individual must put aside the complaining of the people and do what is best for the country. People are bitching about health care, have a healthcare stance and that’s it. Have a problem with welfare, completely overhaul it, which would also produce jobs while cutting the overhead. Stand by decisions. Religion has nothing to do with government. To be honest, religion has nothing to do with God either since Religion is just a man-made farce to impose man’s will on other men to create a hierarchy…that is why people feel like religion is only for the pristine.
In either case, I feel that there needs to be a leader or a panel who are willing to make the difficult decisions to move forward without nonsense. Look at China and Japan…some people like the government, some don’t. but do they have economic problems?

Speaking to your point however I think leadership options would be stronger with a three party system as opposed to the two parties we have now. Its either black or white right now. If Obama says one thing, the Republicans are of course opposed. It makes it very difficult to do business that way. If we had more options then you can’t completely be against everything get my point?
