[RANT] Lupe Fiasco, Media Showcase Mindless American Mindset in Trade Center Mosque Protest
I’m petitioning a ban on all Southern Baptist Churches near any former Slave plantations.

Its amazing to me that the top story of the day, heck the last month in New York and to some degree around the country has been a debate about whether or not a group of Muslim Americans can build a Mosque remotely close to the World Trade Center site. Notice I didn’t say “Ground Zero”.
Its hillarious to me when I walk the streets of Lower Manhattan and run into these tourist who always ask how to get to “Ground Zero”. Ground Zero…its exactly that. NOTHING! There’s nothing to see but a big ass whole with a little bit of construction going on. Its almost been 9 full years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and as fast as we’ve seen entire towns built there still has been ZERO build on the World Trade Center site. That’s the real issue. Where’s all this reconstruction, the Freedom tower they promissed the victims’ families? Who cares about a Mosque.
Instead the powers that be distract you from that fact and instead get everyone to focus on some Mosque, a place of worship that’s planned to be built NEAR the site, not on it, near.
That’s the most racist shit I’ve heard in so long. If that was the case I don’t want not another Southern Baptist Church to be erected anywhere in the South. Why because it was those same Southern Baptist that used their religion to persecute my ancestors for 400 years of slavery. NO SOUTHERN BAPTIST CHURCHES WITHIN 10 MILES OF FORMER COTTON PLANTATION! Silly? Hell yeah its silly and so is this.
Last week, the Godfather of Hip Hop, Russell Simmons weighed in with his opinion and now Lupe Fiasco, himself a Muslim American offers his views in a recent edition of Rolling Out Magazine.
There was such an overwhelming sentiment that maybe it’s not the best of idea. I think the people who are building it should take that under consideration. Would they be setting themselves up for vandals? Because now it’s become a target. But on the other side, I think it’s a great opportunity because Islam is in the forefront. This mosque situation is a good chance to spread what Islam is really about. People can give commentary on how much of a peaceful religion it is. I look at the situation as a win-win. Just by you talking to me about the controversy, I get to spread the fact that Islam is a wonderful religion. The majority of Muslims are not even in the Middle East. the majority of Muslims are in South East Asia. The point of Islam is to promote peace. But there are a lot of emotions in New York.
I just lost about 12 oz of respect for Lupe. That was a poorly thought out response. He’s worried about vandals? Um didn’t a handful of terrorist take down part of the New York Skyline a a couple thousand lives with it for this same pompous American idealism? This is the reason everyone hates Americans. We’re so self absorbed that we can’t even care to think about anything else outside or bubble. The 9/11 terrorist struck to make us aware of the bigger picture but this silly ass mosque argument showcases that not only have we not learned a lesson but we’re probably worst than before. I’ma stay out of Manhattan as much as I can for the time being. I can’t wait to hear what E.L. Diaz has to say.

‘Religious’ tolerance?
The privileges of being classed as religion should be withdrawn from Islam.
If Hitler had claimed that ‘Mein Kampf’ was dictated by God, would we be forced to tolerate the Nazi Party as a religion? Islam is first and foremost a mind-destroying, totalitarian political ideology that spreads through the Body Politic like a virus.

Consequently, Islam should be reclassified from ‘RELIGION’ to ‘PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM’ – a virulent contagious mental illness. It could then be contained by the methods used to prevent the spread of typhoid and other lethal epidemics: enforced exclusion and quarantine of carriers, eradication of foci of infection, immunization of the susceptible population etc.
Ive been comin to this site for over 2 yrs now and only chimed in maybe 3 times. but this Mosque thing is crazy me and a coworker and like u said i think its racist and discrimatory and hypocritical of the white people and black people and of christians and jews. i say its ok and should be ok for them to build there cuz like u said its near not on but near. when extremist christian groups blow up abortion centers or kill the people that work there its not all christians that are lumped together its not all christians who are protesting my fellow veterans (at their funerals) who have given their life so they can practice their crazy brand of brand of religion. that was my argument then i asked if they took the MOSQUE out of the CULTURAL CENTER and built there would it be more acceptible and he said yeah, but i agree with lupe that the shouldnt set themselves up for failure by buildin there and pushin the issue cuz somebody will do something to that buildin and i believe that it is insensitive also on the part of the people tryin to build their but it is their right to do so one that i fought for peace out… i holla at yall in another yr or so..lol and sorry for it bein so long
No we welcome your comments. Don’t be shy. You make valid points. My concern with Lupe’s argument however is when he says building the mosque is “setting themselves up”. For what? Vandalism? We can easily deal with that. Its the very ideals for why we WOULDN’T build the mosque/ cultural center that makes our enemies hate America and rightfully so. Its a very selfish mentality.

By NOT building the mosque what message is that sending to all the law abiding Muslim Americans. You’re less than the rest of us because you’re a Muslim and with them. That’s TERRORISM! Same fear model exercised by the police in poor neighborhoods. Impose fear on the people. Unfortunately such tensions can lead to the occasional and unexpected result. I would be careful with this one.

Settin themselves up for the crazies of other religions to set fires to it make death threats and the other crazy shit that white people gonna do to it cuz America is a Christian nation and all muslims are islamist extremist. It’s so crazy that this is even an issue . Last I check there was something called freedom of religion . As far as building the mosque “near” Ground Zero… and so what ! They only people that r crying and bitch’n about it R…..K.K.KRACKUZ who call themselves Christians yet don’t want any other religion practiced here in AmeiKKKa , yet those are the same Christians who burned churches n the 1700′s until about now. These are the same KKKristians who wear white sheets going around trying 2 scare non whites. Those R the same KKKrackers that are trying 2 Westernize countries like Iraq when Islam has been here longer than AmeriKKKa itself. Am I a muslim ….nope but I do respect a person’s right 2 worship any religion they choose . That’s what makes AmeriKKKa so gr8 yet so hated . The Hypocracy is their demon…cracy.
Quality Point. Everyone talks about how Christianity is an offshoot of Judiasm but they fail to realize that Christianity is deep rooted in the beliefs of the Islam as well. I wont get deep with the scriptures but suffice to say that there indeed is an American sentiment that what we do is better than what they do. Hence why terrorist target.
I see no justification for building the Mosque in that spot of all places in the world. This is nothing more that a monument glorifying the killing of innocent Americans. I guess no one remembers the reports of Muslims in Seattle dancing in the streets on 9/11. Peaceful religion my a$$.
Are you not identifying a sector of people who happen to be muslim or do you strongly feel that Islam teaches terror. I guess we’d need examples of that in Muslim doctrine.
Terrorist of ANY kind would have a hard time doin as much killin, massacrin, slaughterin, genocidin,oppressin’,etc. as American Christians. What I know is this-when white America kills or oppresses they find just the right propaganda to justify it. Then when the dirt is done and some time has passed, they say “Hey, that was a long time ago. Stop living in the past.” But when you fire on them, kill them, make them experience pain and suffering- they say “We will never forget!” “Remember the Alamo.” “Remember the Maine”,”Remember Pearl Harbor”. The Klan and White racist supremacy groups can assemble, march, demonstrate and preach messages of hate via internet, print, vocally, television and so on-so this can’t be about terrorism.How can it be when we have so much “home-grown” terrorism that goes unchecked? This mosque protest is to fool those that are slow, those who chose to remain unlearned and those who really love to hate.

I see both sides of the argument and both sides have equal and valid arguments.
One thing we know for damn sure… if it were us Americans trying to build a church near, close, in proximity to where we bombed the shit out of Muslims–it would NEVER HAPPEN! It is only us Americans that “appear” to have conscience arguments about “racism” and “political correctness” and “doin’ the right thang.” Middle-Eastern countries don’t get two-shits about that!
That’s an interesting statement. I think that sentiment has more to do with an anti-American sentiment not a anti-Christian sentiment. Remember Muslims are a viable sect within our population. Its different to say we don’t want Iraqui’s because their country supports and harbors terrorist than to say we don’t want Muslims because they practice the same religion as those that attacked us on 9/11.

So basically the developer should be able to fight the decision to the Supreme Court if he so chooses and win. I think this is a case less about legal than moral or ethics. I think everyone acknowledges that legally there’s no recourse to stop the development but in the interest of what they thought would be irritating the smallest some of people they created an unnecessary national brouhaha.
From my understanding, it isn’t a Mosque, but a Community Center. This portion dedicated to any type of Islam is about a floor and a half. The rest of the building is built for the community. With several Mosques in the area already I don’t understand what the big deal is. People like to slow down progress with their own politics. Sadly, I think this ‘Community Center’ will complete construction way before they actually do a ceremonial ground breaking on the WTC site.
Exactly which is why I say the ‘community center’ fiasco is just a distraction to get the victims’ families minds of the fact that they haven’t yet been able to finish construction on any memorial. Its still “GROUND ZERO”

To Khalil Amani: America has a history of invading countries, killing the young men and raping their women and natural resources, setting up puppet governments and leaving behind U.S. corporations to run industries and services and military bases, just in case the natives want to swell up again.
