Legendary Fat Beats Record Shop To Close Without A Care From Hip Hop 2.O
Yet another Hip Hop Historic Landmark to be wiped from the memory

@fatbeatsny @fatbeatsla @FatBeatsDotCom
When I first started off in music believe it or not it was as a DJ. Not because I loved getting the party started or even was any good at cutting records its because I loved the sound of vinyl. It has a unique and authentic sound about it that never fades and is the single reason why it will never die completely as a music format.
However, the brick and mortor music stores that once housed crates and crates of these 12″ ers have all but died out. One of the last was a store called Fat Beats. But today marks an end of an era as they announced they will close their two remaining stores doors next month. The Headquarters in New York will shut down on September 4 with the L.A. store shutting its doors 2 weeks later on the 18th.
I can remember as a teenager flipping through stacks and stacks of vinyl covers searching for music listening to them at Fat Beats through tattered earphones. Ever now and then I would get a glimpse of a well known DJ or two standing side by side me doing the same. It once housed some of the rawest underground music and B-side remixes that were too grimey for radio. Its one of the lesser known historical relics that should have been preserved by some type of hall of fame but will unfortunately fade without much historical evidence. I think I might head down there and just take one last trip down memory land and shoot some photos for the record book. I encourage all of you in NY or LA to do the same because when its gone…its gone.
