Ciara On Her ‘Ride’ Being Banned From BET

With all the attention femstars like Nicki Minaj and Keri Hilson have been getting, One-time “it girl” Ciara has fallen off…hard. Once believed to be the next female R&B superstar, Ciara’s career has sputtered in the past year. So perhaps its an understatement to say the singer’s forthcoming “Basic Instinct” album is make or break. But a recent ban of her sexed video for her lead single “Ride” by BET is sure to be a setback for that effort.
Paper Magazine recently caught up with the increasingly desperate Ciara to discuss the ban and the future of her career.
“In my past experience with my videos with BET in particular, I’ve been used to cutting things out here and there. But when I heard it was banned and would never be played, it was definitely a surprise for me. I didn’t expect that. However, it’s just one of those things… I of course want my video to be played on all networks, but at this point it’s all good. Thank God for new technology and that there are so many ways for my fans to see my video.”
Would this be the technology she was speaking of. She’s right. The TV music video has become a bit obsolete. Viral music videos, album promos and theatrical music movies have replaced the tradition music video. Her team is hoping the exposure she gains from the banned video will help generate a buzz and help move units.
“They’re very important for me because they help me to sell my vision or share my vision, and again, performing is another way to bring lyrics to life,” Ciara says of her music videos. “So for example, for the “Ride” song, I service the video and the song at the same time. I guess sometimes my fans expect for me to have a faster tempo record sometimes. However, with the right song I wanted to give my vision in its entirety. So for me, in my perspective, videos are really important because they allow me to completely share my vision and make it clear.”
What do you think happened to Ciara? She’s still sexy? I don’t think she ever was the best vocal artists but who is these days right. She can still move her body in ways that make the fellas mouths water so what happened? Does she deserve another shot at the top? SOUND OFF!
Man with those moves she deserves a comeback! I agree she isn’t the best singer but shorty can dance and move it in all kinds of ways. She is a great performer to say the least. Everybody has there ups & downs in the music industry but I feel like Ci-Ci deserves another shot. Just do you, keep making those sexy songs & videos baby….Love them long legs!!!
Its tough for female artist too stay relevant in the industry for long… few have done it.. mary j. a keys. beyonce … really the only 3 i can think of… In Ciara’s case i hope she does comeback… plus ci-ci makes sweatpants look sexxy…
Yes, I think that Ciara deserves another shot at the top. I was surprised too when I read online that MTV had banned the Ride video. I know that MTV used to play the video early in the morning, I don’t see any reason for the ban. PEACE!!!
If they can play Rihanna’s Rude Boy and nobody complains about that then she should be able to play her’s. Hell they play Rihanna’s song at the ballpark in St.Lou and that song talks about f—ing her!!! WTF!!!
I made a mistake, it’s BET that banned the Ride video, I still don’t see any reason for the ban though. PEACE!!!

Its some weird double standard. As Mike Pow said concerning Rihanna “Rude Boy”, I don’t see the difference in lyrical content between, Ride and Rude Boy. Maybe its because Ciara is entering/in the twilight of her career and Rihanna’s is about mid life. And what about Nicki Minaj, “Flows tighter than a dick in a butt”, so what they “bleeped” it out, we all know what was said. That video wasn’t banned. But, then again Nicki is what’s hot right now.

And what about the other videos. There can be smoke blowing, liquor pouring, and vixen groping, and other activities deemed as innapropiate, but Ciara can’t shake her FINE ass????

What the FUXX up with that?
There’s a crazy double standard the video is extremely suggestive but definitely doesn’t deserve a ban. For Ciara to be successful the same thing would need to happen to her that happened to Beyonce, the one standing in your way needs to die! Aaliyah had Beyonce spot Just Like Big had Jays spot. They unfortunately passed away before becoming the huge stars everyone knew they were about to be, and then Jay stepped in and when it happened to Aaliyah Beyonce stepped in. So all Ciara has to do is wait for Beyonce to drop dead and she’s good!
ciara has no singing talent. she is a fierce dancer. the long standing ladies, beyonce, akeys, kcole, even riri have staying power due to their voices. cici is like a stripper — a dime a dozen. she needs to get her vocals up and leave some of the ass shakening moves to the professionals to be taken seriously. watch if she continues with the dancing road she will be the next jlo — ass pics/red carpet.

They did ban this for her stripper moves, that are definitely sexual, it’s not just the lyrics but the combo. I stopped getting erections watching music videos when my hormones calmed down in High School but I popped one watching this vid.
