If you could play your dream pickup game of hoops who would choose for your squad.  Well with just about anything at his disposal, President Barack Obama did just that yesterday (Sunday) afternoon as the basketball enthusiast took some leisure time to test his skills against some of the best the NBA has to offer.  In a pickup game at Fort McNair in Washington, the President joined stars, LeBron James, Grant Hill, Dwyane Wade, Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose, Magic Johnson and Bill Russell for a friendly game of hoops.

The game which was part of the president’s 49th birthday weekend was also a special treat for an audience of “wounded warriors” and participants in the White House mentoring program who were granted exclusive access.  Reporters were shut out of the gym, because Obama “just wanted to play,” according to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.  Education Secretary Arne Duncan also suited up for the all-star game.

Kobe Bryant was also there but reportedly punked out and didn’t play.  Alonzo Mourning, Chris Paul, Baron Davis, Derek Fisher, Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Maya Moore of the WNBA Connecticut Huskies also watched from the sidelines.

After the game some of the players joined Obama and his boys for a cookout at the White House. No chicken and watermellon.  Apparently Shrimp was on the menu.  I guess Obama wanted to support the struggling shrimping industry in the gulf. ESPN anchor Stewart Scott had this to tweet about the President’s event.  Its weird seeing journalist with the ill spelling even if it is Twitter.
