SOUND OFF: Is Dez Bryant Right or Wrong For Not Carrying Roy Williams Pads
Taking into account character issues and the Cowboys goal of reaching the Superbowl in their home stadium.

@datplaymaker1 #hazing
I don’t expect even the most die-hard football fans to follow NFL training camp news especially this early into the process. But every now and then you get an interesting story that starves for attention. Enter Dez Bryant, rookie receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. He’s now beefing with fellow wide-receiver Roy Williams, who some say might be Dez’s back up depending on training camp performance. The two are involved in a juvenile standoff based on Bryant’s refusal to comply with basic rookie hazing rituals.
Its interesting to watch that despite how many examples from Michael Vick to Pacman Jones, NFL Rookies still don’t learn that your behavior more than your play dictates often times how successful you will be in your career. Here’s Dez Bryant an undoubtedly talented receiver out of Oklahoma State University. Now just a few months removed from being ruled ineligible for the remainder of his junior season after lying to the NCAA about his interactions with a pro agent, Bryant is back under media scrutiny. This oh by the way is the same Bryant who was involved in the spat with a Dolphins executive who asked him during an draft interview if his mother was a whore. Not his fault clearly but still keeps in the media for the off-the-field not on.
It is small things like these that put players character in question and jeapordize their draft status as Bryant, perhaps one of the top 3 talents in the draft fell to the second half of the first round. Given all that he’s been through you’d think Dez would keep his head down and try and keep a low profile right? Well not exactly.
Monday, Bryant made headlines when he publicly refused to carry veteran, Roy Williams‘s pads after practice—a tried-and-true hazing tradition for rookies just entering the NFL. Dez said he’s not here for silly games and just there to play football. That might have been a reasonable excuse for another player but in trying to focus on football he’s actually taking the situation and once again made it about him for yet again another off-the-field incident. None the less this becomes yet another distraction for the perennially unfocused Cowboys trying to reach the Superbowl in a year its hosted in their home stadium.
As a person whose seen the more intense side of Hazing and was punished for it (I’ll get into that one day) I can tell you this is lightweight but there is a contingent of people who would like to see such activities totally irradiated. I wouldn’t be surprised if Commissioner Goodell steps in and bans such actions league-wide. Talk about marked man then. Dez might want to make sure he knows where those safeties are when coming over the middle.
SOUND OFF: Is Dez Bryant Right or Wrong For Not Carrying Roy Williams Pads? Perhaps you believe Bryant is right for taking a stand that silly rituals as such should end.

I am ride or die boys fan… from superbowls too consecutive 6-10 seasons… finally we are coming back around and a steal like Dez is huge… Dez actually did carry Roy’s pads for the morning practice onto the field… but roy instigated this whole thing by stating to the media that he hope Dez doesn’t carry them off the field, a statement he made in ear shot of Dez. He called out Dez and he stood up…. F**K ROY WILLIAMS, slow and can’t catch…. i hope Doug Free is allotted as much practice time as possible…
This is part of the tradition and more than any other sport football may be the ultimate team sport. Dez although extremely talented needs to suck it up and play his role. As an Avid fan of the Classic HBO series “The Sopranos” this reminds me of when Chris was beefing to Tony about always having to pay for the meals when all the Capos and their side chicks went out for dinner. Tony told him plain and simple “It’s a right of passage, a sign of respect,…. and one day some poor kid will be paying for your meals” Dez should pay attention to this and respect tradition.
You sound just as stupid as the media. Why are you spreading this ill ish you talkng about? Dez never carried his pads and Roy didn’t inatigate nothing to the media.
Die Hard Cowboys FAN! I’ve been listening to this since yesterday morning. The sports station here in Dallas has been talking about this and are still talking about it right now as I right this! Point blank, I don’t believe Dez has to carry Roy’s or anyone else’s pads at all. BUT I do believe that if he does do it then he is building team morale and bonds within the team. He’ll be considered a great team player for doing so. It can go both ways, we’ve all been rookies in some sort of way. With that said…..”HOW ‘BOUT DEM COWBOYS!”
If you never played organized sports, then you would not know that paying dues is what it is. In every job out there , dues have to be paid by the newbie. Now Dez will have to endure something very humiliating within the locker room. Every team does it. The thing is that Dez is selfish i.e. lying to the NCAA about his involvement with Deon Sanders. F*CK the COWGIRLS AND THEY OWNER. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS, HAIL VICTORY. WASHINGTON WILL BE IN THE SUPER BOWL IN DALLAS AND WIN IT. BET THAT PLAYA
Dez needs to carry those pads and STFU. If they tried to make him do something really humiliating then he should stand his ground but a rookie is a rookie. Dez is going to have a good year and will become a leader of the Cowboys in future years but he’s got to win the locker room not just games to do that.
He is 100% wrong, who does this kid think he is. He’s not exempt from tradition and Wade Phillips just let the shit slide. Regardless what you think of Roy, he’s a veteran and Dez is a rookie. Fall back and pay your dues lil dude.
SMH….My HN brotha….Come September 13th your ass is gonna be eating those words when the Cowboys whup that ass. Fuck the redskins, fuck McNabb, he’s gonna get sacked as always and when that clock runs out in the 4th quarter….THE COWBOYS WILL BE VICTORIOUS! Now you can bet on that.
LMAO! I love it!!!The Giants are gonna sneak up on both the cowboys and the redskins and beat that ass!!!
Carry another dudes pads for what? I agree with Dez, they are there to play ball, not play with each other!!!..Tradition my ass, get your own pads.
I played high school and college football and nobody ever told me to carry shyt (they would have gotten cussed out)…there was one hazing ritual in college, but all the freshmen did it, at once. And that was it. We were glad to do it, too…it involved breaking into the girls’ dorm of another nearby college and returning with girls’ underwear…that kind of shyt would get you at least five years today, lol.
Gettin pads ain’t that big of a deal and I’m sure it wasn’t just Dez havin to carry tha pads. When I played ball tha rookie linemen had to grab tha dummies after we hit, running and receivers would get pads and qbs got tha coaches some water or somethin. Just tha way it is. If tha rumors about Roy talkin it up to reporters is tru then I ain’t got a problem wit it but, I every rookie in tha league is doin somethin like that and it ain’t just Dez. Those traditions are part of tha game…like it or not.
Bitchassness on Dez’s part.
