Gotti Kin Has Beef with Rick Ross For Poaching Grandpa’s ‘Teflon Don’ Moniker
Gotti Grandson says: “A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname,’”

Knee Deep in a legal battle with ex-convict and former drug lord “Freeway” Ricky Ross over name infringements, its seems that the hop hop star has offended the family of yet another criminal upon whose likeness he stands to profit from. Carmine Agnello, co-star of the wildly popular former A&E reality show Growing Up Gotti and the grandson of deceased Gambino crime boss, John Gotti’s got some words for Ross concerning his decision to use his grandfather’s nickname as the title of his new album, “Teflon Don”.
John Gotti originally earned the moniker the “Teflon Don” after escaping a legal onslaught on behalf of then prosecutor and now former Mayor Rudy Giuliani back in the 1980s. Gotti was however, eventually convicted of murder and racketeering in 1992 and jailed where he would eventually die.
“My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname. That was my grandfather’s life,” Agnello 24, told the Daily News Tuesday about the Miami rapper. Although he respects Ross’ music he feels he should have asked for a sit down and negotiated terms.
“He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname,’” Agnello, an aspiring rapper himself said of Ross. “I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records …He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself.”
Feeling while he was at it, Agnello borrowed a tactic from fellow Ross hater, 50 Cent.
“Only in America can you go from being a corrections officer to calling yourself Teflon Don,” Agnello said of Ross’ former conflicting profession.”
I guess Ross took the whole Hip Hop sampling thing a bit too far. He’s having tremendous trouble being original which I guess is why he teamed up with Diddy. Peas of a Pod. By the way isn’t it time Diddy changes his name again? It won’t be long before 50 gets Agnello on a track with him.
Regardless, Agnello’s got a major point and even if he didn’t at the end of the day not even Rick Ross is going to tell him he doesn’t. Rappers can beef and posture all they want but mess with the Gambinos and you might wind up in trunk somewhere out in a Bay Parkway parking lot.

My point exactly…
Most of these rappers are living fat off of fabricated lives. Telling tales of shit they seen on TV, read in the paper, or witnessed second or third hand. So at the end of the day their raps are more fictious biographicals, than autobiographicals.
That being the case, here is the recipe for a popular rap song;
-1/5 actual urban event (preferably from a area you are from or frequent.)
-1/5 personal placment in that event (whether true or not)
-1/5 whitty punchline, metaphor, or simile (to tie the first two together)
-1/5 banging beat by a popular producer
-1/5 catchy chorus
Blend together, generously.
Distribute to all urban media outlets.
Flood the airwaves.
Extra points: Hang around other rappers who do the same but already have established notoriety.
Extra, extra points: Primier video on BET.
Hear a hit song in the making!!!
Take that, take that, take that…
Unless he’s going to produce some sort of document showing that he has a copyright on the name, he should just shut his f**king mouth.
.
If he’s going to play it that way, how about if we turn it around? How about if we sue the Gotti family for using the word ‘teflon”, which is a name legally trademarked by the good people at DuPont chemical.
.
I’m not sure what pisses me off more; a family making a media career banking off how ‘cool’ it is to be a career criminal, a network (A&E) making a buck off of a history of crime and murder, or this little want-to-be thinking that he’s deserving of respect from anyone.
What the Gotti grandson and others like my man 50 dont realize it doesn’t matter anymore about authenticity just make records I could shake my ass and smoke weed to. Thats all the fans care about who’s real who’s fake who did the crime or did time doesn’t mean shit to the average fan. So stop wasting time trying to discredit each other and focus on the next hit record.
Wow Malcolm. Tell em why you mad son. We don’t get to see this side of you often. I see the Italian American/ Mafia issues strike a nerve with you. Some how I knew you’d go there with Dupont however. Great Patent btw.
I think the key point everyone misses as well with Rick Ross is his relationship with DJ Khaled. Think what you want to about him but he’s a radio DJ and controls the airwaves. He’s also down with the Pittbulls who have the most powerful urban recordpool in the world. All he has to do is cosign an artist like Rozay and the spins flood the radio airwaves brainwashing the mind.
I just find his family offensive on so many levels.
.
And it’s more a ‘law and order’ thing rather than an Italian thing. My family has deep ties in the law enforcement business.
.
But being slightly Italian, that gives me the right to go after these people without being accused of anti-Italian. We’ll just cause it a public service.
I agree. It’s been a long-time pet peeve of mine that ‘singers’ don’t sing anymore.
,
In ‘my day’, the over-the-top popular group ELO had their careers ruined when it was discovered that they were using recorded tracks at their live concert; now, (with the exception of rap where it’s impossible), you almost can’t go to a concert where the person is performing live.
.
I don’t mind paying $50 for a concert ticket, but I don’t want to pay that much just to hear the CD that I can play at home on my computer for free.
You left out one part…
.
If you can’t do any of the above, wait until the song is popular, and then do a ‘dance remix’ of someone else’s work and slap your name on it.
I don’t think the nested comments are working
Good point indeed….
He IS talking as if there is something notable about being a Gotti, besides infamy….
DAAAYMMM! Go ‘head, Malcolm!
there family aint gangster no more huh if that was back in the days i guess rick ross would have been wacked already!!
