There’s an old saying that “crime don’t pay.”  Well technology is making sure of it.  You might remember a couple years ago I wrote about a story of how a MacBook user was able to remotely activates her webcam to lead police to the thieves that stole her laptop.  Since that time, Apple has focused on making such technology a mainstay in all of its devices and other technology developers have followed suit.

Its now possible to remotely activate the GPS on your lost or stolen mobile phone to not only locate it but also wipe clean its data to ensure sensitive information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Of course the new Apple iPad is also equipped with such technology and as TMZ reports it was just such feature will.i.am used to track down his device and the over $10,000 worth of jewelry and personal items that were stolen from his Bentley last week.  While police have yet to apprehend the perp, the Black Eyed Peas front man has been able to recover most of his stuff.
